I posted this in the snowing thread, but since this could effect many of us, I wanted to start another thread...

Ugh. I hope it's not another 5 days of power outtages like last time.

New Storm warnings... this kind of wind is crazy!!!!!

Puget Sound Weather Outlook
Updated Friday 5:35 p.m.
Tonight is the calm before the storm. We'll see generally mostly clear skies. A little random snow shower popped up in the greater Tacoma area, putting down a little more snow, but it'll fade away as the night goes on and it'll be clear but cold. Lows will drop into the low-mid teens.

The storm then begins Saturday, bringing the potential for widespread heavy snows, damaging winds, and a significant number of power outages to a region still recovering from two winter storms earlier in the week.

Hurricane-force winds are possible for communities that nestle up against the Cascades in the eastern foothills of Snohomish, King and Pierce Counties, while farther west, several inches of snow are possible in the greater Seattle-Tacoma-Everett Metro area starting around sunset Saturday, and over toward the Olympic Mountains, they could be measuring new snowfall in feet.

The situation could be particularly dire along the far north coast, where you will get a combination of heavy snow and very strong winds. A rare BLIZZARD WARNING is in effect there.

I have all of the details posted in a story on our home page at www.komonews.com. But here is a quick overview:

Quick Overview

The foothills could see east winds of 50-70 mph, gusting to 70-90 mph Saturday morning through Sunday. A HIGH WIND WARNING is in effect here. Widespread and potentially prolonged power outages are a concern in this region, combined with below-freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills.
The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue Metro area could see 3-8" of snow Saturday evening into Sunday. Gusty winds in the eastern parts of this region could get to 50-60 mph.
The Hood Canal area could see 8-24" of snow
Southwest Interior might get 6-12" of snow as well as a coating of ice from freezing rain
Everett north to border could get about 4-6", but has higher uncertainty
Some areas, especially south, could also get freezing rain and icing problems
Blizzard warnings are in effect for the far north coast and Cascades where heavy snow will combine with strong winds for whiteout conditions.
Blizzard warnings in effect for all Cascade passes -- could see 1-2 feet of snow combined with 75 mph wind gusts and wind chills ranging from 0 to -25.
Storm calms down Sunday evening
Some lingering rain showers, possibly back to snow showers above 500 feet, linger for Monday, then we get a dry break for Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

Long range models conflict on whether we warm up through Christmas week or stay cool. We have a few weak systems dropping in that could either be rain or snow, but no major accumulations expected, and snow levels could drift up to 500-1,000 feet.

I'll be keeping that article on the home page updated frequently through the night and weekend.

Here is another fuller article...

That means starting Saturday morning, a roaring east wind for those who live on the western end of those gaps. Cities here include North Bend, Gold Bar, Enumclaw, Cumberland, Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Covington and Snoqualmie Ridge. The east Renton and Kent Highlands are also in danger of getting some of these higher gusts. If you've lived out there for any period of time, you know if you get the east wind. A HIGH WIND WARNING is in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday evening for this area.

How strong? Forecasting models as of Friday morning indicate sustained winds could be as strong as 50-70 mph with gusts of 70-90 mph. That would be hurricane force. Again, this is starting Saturday morning, but could last into Sunday. If this verifies, it would be the strongest one since December 2003.

good thing every vehicle my family owns is topped off with fuel, and i just filled up (6) 5 gallon gas cans. Our Christmas lights will be on if we lose power, and we have plenty of gas to run the generator. EVERYONE GET GAS TONIGHT IN WHATEVER CANS YOU HAVE AND YOUR VEHICLES. if its like the previous storms you wont find it, or there will be ridiculous lines.

I am getting up early--heading to town to fill up the runner(dodge is full) and all my gas cans, get food and be ready...

I cant wait for the snow. Bring it awn:masturbanana[1]:

I keep wondering if I need to go buy one of the Kerosene heaters just in case... Why the hell did I move into an apartment without a fireplace around here?? I know my folks will be fine tho. They wethered the '87? storm. Without power. for 32 days!! And people wine about being out of power for 2 hours......

x2 on that heater you would be better of with a catilitic syle propane unit and keep some windows open as well as going outside everynow and then. I remember when every winter was like this :cheer: weathers been changing and now everyone panics when we get a little snow

I'm a little worried about that trip too and I'm not even going....

We're going to Reiter Saturday, 10am. The snow wheeling will be EPIC! (if we make it:eeek:) Not sure of the trailer parking issue or getting home in one piece Saturday night.......but we's a try'n anyways.:011: :011: :011:

its a good thing I'm drunk!

aside from that.. i hope my neighbors trees dont fall on my house...

Ummm, maybe? Sounds like a bad idea to me. It's not everyday that they issue a 'Blizzard Warning' around here.

I'm stoked for it......:awesomework:

I just realized I cant tow my rig out of here if I wanted to, even now. My road is a roller coaster and its all ice..:booo: Makes a good sledding hill. Kinda like a big half pipe. 1/16th mile long

Just put fuel in the dodge and the jeep is almost full, we have plenty of wood and food, were set if this really goes down like they say it will

Well I will be drive from Marysville to Renton to go to work. Need to make sure all the plows and sanders are out.

This was issued at 5:00 am this morning

National Weather Service said:
AT THE HEIGHT OF THIS EVENT... SUSTAINED WINDS COULD REACH 50 TO 70 MPH WITH PEAK GUSTS OF 70 TO 90 MPH. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO IMPACT COMMUNITIES IN EASTERN KING COUNTY SUCH AS NORTH BEND... MAPLE VALLEY AND ENUMCLAW. COMMUNITIES IN EASTERN SNOHOMISH COUNTY SUCH AS SULTAN AND GOLD BAR COULD ALSO EXPERIENCE WINDS APPROACHING THIS MAGNITUDE.

FURTHER WEST ALONG THE I-405 AND HIGHWAY 167 CORRIDORS... INCLUDING WOODINVILLE... BELLEVUE... RENTON AND AUBURN... WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 50 TO 55 MPH ARE EXPECTED.

THIS EVENT COULD RIVAL A SIMILAR FOOTHILLS WIND STORM FROM EARLY DECEMBER 2003. DURING THAT EVENT... NUMEROUS TREES WERE BLOWN OVER... BLOCKING RESIDENTIAL STREETS AND MAJOR HIGHWAYS ALIKE... INCLUDING HIGHWAY 18 NEAR TIGER MOUNTAIN. POWER WAS KNOCKED OUT TO MANY RESIDENCES AND BUSINESSES FOR AS MUCH AS A WEEK. PREPARATIONS FOR THIS WINDSTORM SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY THIS MORNING. BE SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH SUPPLIES ON HAND TO LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS SHOULD YOU BE STRANDED AT HOME.

IN ADDITION... WIND CHILL READINGS DURING THIS EVENT MAY BE NEAR ZERO WITH AIR TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S.

Looks like we might be in for a couple of interesting days, I hope everyone is prepared.

We're OK here, but I'm not comfortable on firewood, so I'll have to run out this morning and scrounge some up. If (I mean when) the power goes out, the house is gonna get cold quick.

Just got home with fuel and food...

At least if we loose power--I can easily keep the house warm :awesomework:

We're not supposed to get the winds you are, but I'm headin out shortly to fuel up the truck, wifey's rig, and gas cans just in case....Crash, your nads fall off this morning when you went out?:haha: heard it was like 2* there!!!

oh wow just woke up, its 8F in Redmond right now.
Looks like the weather models are disagreeing on how warm it might get into next week. My hope is that it stays snowy.. its lots of fun! =D

With all the ice this morning though, I don't think my tow rig would make it more than a few blocks from the house. =/

Not so much of a storm in Seattle...

It would be brighter but we have tinted windows in the office. :D

2 below over here right now. Supposed to be blizzard conditions tonight and tomorrow, with some wind but not as extreme. Good luck to ya'll over there, hope everybody has an alternate means of heat and has supplies for a few days if it's as bad as they say it's going to be. I've got firewood, the 4runner is full, going to fill up the Ford this morning and buy groceries.

If we don't see you on the board for a day or so, we will head your way with chainsaws and some firewood.
