Here is a thought,
That guy that heard the threat or them admit it either go to the
police, Or get a few "Calm" level headed Guys to talk to them.
Threats will piss them off further, Asking why may lead to an answer
we can help them with,,,

The threat should be enough to lead to an investigation if the correct person
is told I would think.

If the trail cam is used and the DNR can't use it. I am positive King5
would be more then happy to play it. Crap like that always gets Airtime.

And the guys are screwed if you give DNR thier names and then a week later
they get caught on tape like you warned about......

I say find out who they are, then **** their little sisters... even if they are ugly... in the name of our hobby.

Oh, and take pics of you giving their sister the 2 finger culdesac with a rusty trombone on the backside, followed by a 3/4 reversed slick willie... and post the pictues on the barricades in a nice 8 1/2 x 11 glossy ...

But that is just an idea???

So I guess in their defense (not saying this is right, but playing devil's advocate) how are they supposed to know what is natural windfalls and what was man-made barracades (any idiot should know this REGARDLESS!) But how could you prove it otherwise? Do you guys (RTW or DNR or whoever, have some proof or documentation of where these barracades have been established?

For Example: Say Jimmy goes up to TA (everyone knows this story, but take away the signage for a moment, because not all the "natural" blockages are marked with signs) and pulls the blocks out of the way. Somehow Jimmy is caught doing this and persecuted.... Now, say those blocks were fallen logs instead. Jimmy pulls the logs out of the way. He gets caught and is persecuted. Couldn't he just say he was clearing the trail...? Or is there documentation of this "natural" barracde somehwere in the Annals for DNR or whoever to fall back on?

The DNR knows of every barricade put up. All of the ones we did this weekend were hoisted up into place or held into place with cable/clamps, not just dead fall thrown and off the ground, very evident of what was done.

And I can agree with you to a point of somebody who might not know any better--but these persons are making it a point to remove them.

Both rigs in question are jeeps, one being red and the other black.

But what we did is VERY evident on its purpose..

Many people wouldn't care what's on K5 and the DNR could do absolutely nothing in your scenario.

Really sucks, They can dole out tickets for us for certian circumstances
but they can do nothing about the real damaging actions.

I may get flamed for this but, They need to have a little more power
in these situations.

It's funny how many people are so quick to jump on the bandwagon to "keep them off our trails". And yet you can't seem to understand why the Sierra Club wants to do the same thing to you?

These guys have the same right to be out on those (non-****y-trapped) trails as any of the rest of us.

That said, they absolutely DO NOT have the right to destroy them. This is the exact reason we, as a resource user group, need to be self-policing. If we're not willing to step up and identify the bad apples of the group to the proper authorities, the other 98% get labeled destructive by proxy. I don't care if we share a common hobby - if you disrespect the privileges that have been granted to all of us to the point that you threaten others' privileges, you're out.

I'm not sure if it's something Ron is able to do in an official capacity, but it seems like it might be helpful if he could pay them a courtesy visit.

I like the idea as previously posted of asking them why. Try and get an answer and convince them otherwise. Probably some BS about you can't close our trails blah blah blah, but if the fukstiks would realize how bad they hurt the sport they might think differently. Try and get the low down on when they are going to do it and have the LEO up there. Or claymores, problem solved.

I do like Pooh's idea though :awesomework:

Thats exactly what I am hoping to try and get done eric.

I would like to have a little heat put to them, enough for them to think about there actions. And somebody of authority usually makes a bigger impact..

Hard to say. There resources to fight this are slim but they are trying. Heck I know kim doesn't work 24/7 but she has always been more than happy to talk about these matters even when she is off work/off the clock.

So, if its known (to a couple users) who these kids are. Use the collective resources of the board to "watch" them. Should be pretty easy to spot when they are headed up to Reiter. When they are, "we" get the word out and inform Kim and/or Ron so they a can head out there to catch them in the act. Other folks (probably a good job for RTW) and go with them to act as back-up (so Kim or Ron are not stuck confronting these folks alone) and add a little 'heavy' to the mix.

Then make examples of them (I'd say more Community service than $$ or corporal punishment).

Resource and commitment heavy, but I keep hearing how folks are agree folks aren't stepping up.

I would not worry about RON any. He is somebody I would not want to be on the bad side of..

That's good. But it would be a good show of "unity" to have a handful of fellow wheelers backing him up to reinforce that there actions are frowned upon.

I will step up to go have a civilized talk with theses kids. A few cool tempered adults may be able to explain to them that their actions will reflect bad on the entire wheeling community. That they will be targets by most of the wheeling community and that they will no longer enjoy any time at Reiter. Just calmly let them know the LEO's are on the look for them and so are we....we wont be violent to them, but might have to take long lunch breaks, blocking them for long periods of time.

Basically let them know their threats and actions will be policed by the rest of us, resulting in a very unpleasant future for them wheeling at Reiter.

If anyone wants to identify them and go have a chat...I'm in:awesomework:

I was going to suggest Robin's idea. If their names, pics, rigs, etc. is known by everyone, and everyone keeps an eye out then they might shape up. I don't know how else we can "police our own." We say that all the time, let's walk the walk.

im my day as a vandal i was talked to by a police officer who very nicely told me he ****ING KNEW I DID IT AND IF IT EVER HAPPENED AGAIN BY ANYONE I WOULD GO TO JAIL FOR IT.

end of my vandalism days as i realized right at that moment in time i was not as smart assed as i thought i was.

if ron would go have a chat with them would be great. especially if he takes them out to the driveway and shows them the arsenol he carries in his truck....stresses to them he is not the one to be on his bad side....

Use the power of the board and peer pressure.

post thier picture and next time they go to buy parts at a 4WD store the owner can just refuse service to them as they are bad apples.

I agree with Hip's suggestion. No one should do anything to them bodily (Although their parents should turn them over their knees and beat the hell out of their asses) or cause any damage no matter how minor to their jeeps.

Post their names and photos, make up a poster like a wanted Posted and give to all auto parts stores not just the 4x4 shops and ask them to support our efforts to stop the damage these guys are suspected of causing, by refusing to do business with them. This could also include gas stations so they would have a harder time to even get gas for their rigs. :awesomework:
