Not sure if there is already a thread about this but I am too lazy too search right now as im stuffing my face with food :flipoff:

What do you think of the new health care bill they are trying to pass??

This is an E-mail we received here at work today in regards to the new bill;

All,
I have read numerous pages of the Senate bill and current reconciliation package.
I expressed my dismay to Senator Murray in person, I had a direct face to face debate with Congressman Smith on behalf of the Kent employees that live in his district.
There are numerous tax increases coming next year, S corporation taxes due to health care bill and lapsing of Bush tax cuts, Unemployment Insurance is tripling for may companies due to the consistent extension of benefits.
There will probably be more that may affect the company and it may be in excess of 10% increase, possibly putting us in a position where the Government may be taking more than 50% !!
Since this bill still has to play out and we have yet to know the total impact, there will be a temporary freeze on hiring and raises until we can reconcile the true impact with our accountants.
I am terribly sorry, MVP is not doing this, our Government has taken this drastic action, when the time comes in
November you have a chance to voice your opinion.
We have yet to see the potential long term impact on the economy, so I ask that all still be prudent in your efforts to reign in spending.:eeek:

if their taxes are going up due to the lapsing Dubya's give-a-way to millionaires they can afford better health insurance for their employees.

where does his post say anything about what kind of insurance he does or doesn't have?

It is a sham, they are forcing everyone in the nation to purchase healthcare, which goes against the sovereignty of the states in the 10th amendment.

It forces providers to cover pre-existing conditions, covering these conditions is extremely costly and will drive premiums way up, which is what the Americans don't want and was suppose to be the reason for Healthcare Reform.

The only reason it "seems" to be balanced budget wise is because we pay for it for four years before we can use it, beyond the ten years is a deficit.

This is the same exact plan that is in Mass. and it has almost bankrupted that state, if you think I'm wrong, just look at Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, every year we borrow more and more money to keep these services going, at some point we won't be able to borrow anymore from China, and what will we do then?

So a corporation that has a bigger tax burden can afford better insurance :eeek:

Naturally. Not that the federal government has the Constitutional power to mandate what they do with their profit, but your question is kinda silly.

Wouldn't it be the other way around, If I have more money in my pockets then I can pay for my employees to have better coverage, if the government is taking my money for taxes, then I have less to spend, right? :eeek:

Higher tax burden doesn't come from thin air, it comes from having more cash in your pocket. If you're business is making fat profits, I'd say it's doing something wrong. Give yourself a raise or put more into future growth. If you are making fat incomes, awesome, but don't try to claim higher income = lower income. Sheesh.

Sounds to me like your employer is trying to find an reason to cut your wages and stop hiring help, there's absolutely no reason to start changing things before anything is enacted

will be a temporary freeze on hiring and raises

 I have a feeling alot of companies are going to be taking this position.

All I have to say is if there wasn't already so much money wasted in government, they could probably provide free health care to all CITIZENS without raising taxes.

I see where you and I are at a misunderstanding, I shouldn't have used the word "Burden", I was replying to Bob's "increasing taxes" statement, of course tax burden is a tax burden whether you are paying $1 per year or a million per year, Bush's tax cut put more money back in the company, for growth, healthcare etc. now that it's expired, companies now have to spend that "extra money" on taxes, or deductions if they are smart.

Now back to the "Healthcare Bill"

We need true healthcare reform, which will lower costs and premiums, there are a lot of ways to do this without having the governement in charge, the free market works it just needs a few guidelines.

that message was from the owner of the company, about 6 months ago we had a company wide meeting where he stated our company was still making profit. Since then people have been requesting raises & questioning our health insurance since it has gone out the roof. I think this is just being used as an excuse to postpone raises as many people including myself have questioned them.

It's been like 2 1/2 years since my one and only raise since I started here. I knew the economy was ****ty but at the same time I have a family to support & I do not make **** for money. I've really considered looking for a new job

I never said "increasing taxes" are you talking about Dubya's give-a-way to millionaires ending? or Obama's tax cut for everyone else?

I am talking about W's take break, and I'm not a millionaire, so why did my taxes go up over last year? :eeek:

Yeah, you're right, the company is making less money or quite possibly running in the red due to the fawked economy, but YOU OTOH, should be getting raises as if nothing ever happened :haha:

What do you suppose the government's role is, if not to impose and enforce those guidelines? That's what most of this bill is, guidelines.

What else do we need? Tort reform? Hell yes. Are we going to get people to vote with their dollars when receiving health care? Ya know, the main driving force of any free market? No. They have insurance. And now they all have insurance. Nobody price shops when they have insurance. Insurance is the antithesis of a free market.

Yes, Tort reform, Insurance competition across state lines, etc... This bill came at the wrong time in the economy, and will raise taxes, cause some small business' to go under, and reduce job creation. I fear it is just a stepping stone to the public option. Besides, hasn't the Democratic montra been to stop all the spending?

It's amazing how one stupid response can screw up some many other responses down the line.

Taxes going up because of the lapsing of the tax breaks has NOTHING to do with having more money, it simply means that the government is going to keep TAKING more money, leaving less for the company to spend on health insurance, or hiring.

If just do not understand where you get any of this junk that you keep putting out. This is total class envy as you obviously think that people who are sucessful, or companies that are successful owe YOU something. It's evident in all the junk that you post. Why don't you try BEING one of those people instead of just whining about the unfairness of some people being rich while others or not.

I don't have health insurance and it's a CHOICE for me. I could sell the wheeler, the tow rig and trailer then all that money that wouldn't be going to those things would make it very easy to pay for my own insurance but guess what. I made the choice that my health is good so I'm going wheeling. I do not under any circumstances want any one to pay for MY bills. If I go to the DR I get a bill and start paying on it, simple as that. It's just personal responsibility in action. Something that is not even considered in too many instances.

gonna cost you $695 a year to make that decision now

OK that is just stupid. You're going to sit there and tell us that if you roll your junk and get some whacky spinal injury or some other really expensive illness, that you're going to pay the bill for your own medical care? I call bull****.

What's so hard to understand? When I tried cutting my hand off a couple years ago with a skinny wheel it cost me right around $1000. When I got cellulitis in my foot a few years ago my bill came out to just under $4000. Peanut had insurance through her work for awhile and that's when our wreck happened. That cost around $1700 before insurance kicked in and $500 after them.

I guess I'm in a minority that can take care of themselves without the gov't putting me on a program.

$695 a year? thats @ $50-$60 a month, pretty much a tank of gas for your wheeler depending on what you wheel.

The I choose not to have insurance speel is bull****

I didn't realize that was an issue.

Yes, I can buy auto insurance from State Farm, which covers nationwide, whereas health insurance is state by state, that in itself would create a huge difference IMO.

Here's one thing that nobody is talking about, the new law is that insurance has to take you if you have a pre-existing condition, that is the big kicker. So, let's say a guy makes $100 grand a year, if he doesn't get insurance he pays $2500 in penalties for not getting it, big whoop it's still a lot cheaper than insuring his family, now this guy gets hurt and needs surgery, he goes out and gets insurance, they pay for all his medical bills and then he drops the insurance and continues paying his penalties, that would be where the lawmakers totally screwed up, and it is where the huge amount of debt will come from, because big bad insurance isn't going to eat the loss, they are going to get their money somewhere, by either raising premiums, or by government subsidies, either way the American people are going to pay big.
