The last day reiter was open :frown::frown::frown::frown::frown::puke::puke::puke::pissed::pissed:

Kick arse day at the rock's!

Nate (chevota) Ian and I decided to go over to the cheese for a kick arse day of wheeling the rocks, We took I-90 to the thorp fruit stand and parked by the river And decided to drive over the ridge in the buggy's. Nate in the sex panther Ian was driving his moon buggy and I was driving Ian's S&N bravo

We started up the hill and before we knew it the radiator fan on Ian's moon car was not working and he was over heating  We got that figured out and started back on are way for a kick arse day of wheeling the rocks. Well when we got about 2 mins away from funny rocks Ian's car started to vapor lock:mad: Well here we decided to eat lunch And let it cool down after about an hour we again started on are way to go have a kick arse day of wheeling the rocks. Well about 200' down the trail, The fuel pump on the car I was driving decided to take a **** Where we sat was a good 30 minute drive from the tow rigs With the rock's less than 2 minute's in front of us We decided to turn around and tow me back to the trailer and just give up on what whould have been a kick arse day at the rocks! :booo:

My worst wheeling trip yet has to be when we were up at Rimrock. I was the last in a line of 6 rigs on a hot summer day. We just left Blue Lake from having lunch and swapping breaking on the trail stories. I made the comment that "I have yet to break any thing". That was it

On one of the hill climbs i was the last to go up, so every one infront of me losened up the rocks and dirt with each spinn of there tires. Me being the smallest of the bunch and the least experiance, was folling behind to learn. My kids saw the hill and got out of the jeep and joined the rest of the group on the top of the hill, so it was only me and the wife. About half way up the hill the strap on my rear u-joint broke and i lost all momentum, and lots of tranny fluid. We ran a line to the tree on top of the hill and winched my Barbie Jeep up it, but i ran out of juice in my battery and could not get over the last little bit, to the top. So the decision was made to drop my winch line, and move one of the other rigs in to postion to pull me the rest of the way up. While my winch line was on the ground, the earth below my jeep decited to move, causing a small land slide under the jeep.

The brakes were on and no matter how hard i pushed on the break pedal the earth just kept moving. Someone on top of the hill grabbed my winch line, hooked it to the tree saver, but that did no good for the winch was in free spool  Shell grabed my daughter, put her face in to her chest and said, " You do not want to see this".

Well the jeep finally stoped moving. The wife was clinching the seat belt for her dear life, her face was as white as snow and all i could do was look out the side of the jeep to see a 15 foot drop only 3 inches away from my tires.

Talk about cutting it close......

Needless to say, i got winched back up the hill, repaired the jeep and we were on the trail.

Now that may not sound bad to most but you really needed to be there, and for a newbee to wheeling, it was dam scarry.........

It's not a star, it's a gear. :fawkdancesmiley: Which is soon to run out...:booo:

There are no bad wheeling trips, some just more memorable than others. :awesomework:

Craziest would be Naches/Shoestring the last weekend before it closes in November, 13 rigs. The incidents listed are not all mine, just spread out over the group.

We left the trailers off the 70 road at 6AM and went over the Naches trail to the East side, a Jeep pukin smoke on the first hill climb and 2 popped beads on the hill down the east side, 1 almost rolled.

Over to Kaner and another popped bead and a front driveline that grabbed the oil pan skid off the pan right before Lillypond at noon. We removed the pan to weld it with jumper cables and 2 batteries, rounded up 3 quarts of oil, 3 from the group went down to whistlin Jacks for more oil, they had issues along the way but did make it back. 2 hours later we were back on the trail headin down to the Milk pond road to head up to Devils slide and then accross the ridge trail to Rocky Saddle,

We took the little rutted bypass on the MP road below the old washout and a guy grenaded his front diff, 3 left for home as it was 3ish in the afternoon at this point......there were some delays on the ridge trail but we all made it to the shale climb on Rocky Saddle about 5PM, a few of us took the full throttle assault on the right line while others were trying the left line up through the trees, we caught 2 guys there that we lost and didnt know how to get back to Crow creek CG so they tagged along with us.

Scott (Digger) might remember this part as he broke a rear axle on his yellow 5 on the hill climb and winched the hill. We finally got everyone up that hill and it was black dark by this time. we wound through the tight section (at that time) and headed over to the lake just on the north side of the ridge that we cant drive by anymore? (Manashtash lake?). We stopped there to let everyone catch up. It was 9 PM by the time we left there and we took the wet swampy trail below the ridge over to the upper Kaner to head back to the Lillypond.

Before everyone even left 1 couple slid into a quag and lost a bead on their jeep. they had to winch them back out and opted for the spare cos it was so dark to see about cleaning it out. we all waited cos at this point we really wanted to keep everyone close as some didnt know the trails that well to go in the dark.

While in the swampy area I hooked a stick in my steering linkage and heard it break and all of a sudden i couldnt steer left that well but had alot of right turn so while the next guy was trying to figure out why his jeep wouldn't run, I got the winch cable out to straighten the drag link. The wife at the time was operating the switch and I told her to let it out and she went in and got my finger in the fairlead, only shread a few layers of skin off but I still have it. Still got the drag link straight and another guys wife bandaged my finger up.

finally got moving again, went about 10 feet (literally) and the guy in front of me lost a bead, 15 minutes later we're movin again.

It was midnight by the time we got back to the Lillypond and the tailgunner was still

12 hours on the busy stuck behind everything breaking. Finally reach the end and blow the motor on the jeep on the way out. Good times. Busy is the best.

Way back when my buddys and i planned a trip to the cheese. I wanted to add some performance to my rig so i bolted some 35 inch tires on my toyota. It had a 1 inch shackle lift and a winch. Otherwise it was a bone stock 85 sr5 std cab. We got to moon rocks and everyone else with gears and lockers is running around doing different lines while i watched. Finally i got egged on and eventually couldnt take it anymore so i dropped into a crevass. The drivers front tire raised up and wedged into the wheelwell. So not to be defeated i tried to steer out of it instead of backing up. Boom-J arm broke. This was at 1 in the afternoon. I stayed with my truck and waited for them to return. At 11:30 that night rennurder returned in his 78 subaru wagon to give me a ride back to camp.

'77 Bunk!:flipoff: That was a long couple days!!! You drove back to Brent's and stole the J arm off of "Buddy Truck" and drove all the way back, and I brought you back up there once again in the ScoopaPoo!

Evans Creek ORV w/ a broken passenger side steering knuckle on the 519, there was several inches of snow & about an inch an hour accumulating. Fortunately one of the guys was able to reach his son via cell phone to go pick up some upper & lower ball joints and to bring them up to us on the trail. Broke at about 5pm, parts delivered about 9pm, drove out by 10pm. I still am extremely in-debted to Jason for going out of his way to do what he did.

Unfortunately on top of all of this, it was the same night that the volunteer fireman from Pacific got killed on the 311b. We had just gotten back down to the Y and were loading back up on the trailers when the sheriff and paramedics were heading up

Lots of lessons learned this day, carry tools (I did), carry parts (I didn't) and pay attention to everyone & thing around you, irregardless of the weather, terrain or conditions...I'll always remember this day for the good & the bad

My most memorable wheeling trip was on christmas day in 1991. My older brother was home from air force and kept saying he wanted to take my 79 ford wheeling befor he left. Finaly I gave in we went up to a place we always wheeled at the owner didn't care as long as no garbage was left. So i let him drive there was a clay hill about a mile long not real steep we went up it a couple times then he said he wanted to see what the truck realy had. I told him it the 390 came out of a cop car so he really hammered it I heard a loud bang. We found short drive shaft between trany and transfer about 50 feet away twisted until it broke but not before breaking every bolt in the bellhousing off and the linkage for the transfer case. So we hike the 5 miles to the highway luckily we were able to catch a ride to town which was another ten miles. We get my friend steve and his dad to come out with there jeep to pull me out to the highway so a tow truck could pick it up. Well we get back to the truck and the jeep wouldn't pull it up the hill it was to slick as it had started raining. So my buddies dad said we'll just come-a-long it upthe hill so 2 hrs later we made the top of the hill. Great we can get out before dark we hook strap to the old ford I jump in try to start it nothing. now we pull it out no power steering or brakes. We made it to the highway thank god it was over.

I can think of a couple. First one was the only time I have ever been to Naches. I was hauling my XJ on a borrowed trailer behind my Tahoe. ON the way out there, Jeremy (Flatty) had to change the starter in his tow rig, and Wazzobie's motorhome was overheating. We eventually got there and set up camp in the meadow. It was then that I noticed the trailer had a flat, but I left it.
The next day, went to run some trails with Elkhunter. It took him all of about 20 minutes to break the rear outuput on his T case. He was done. We went back to camp and he loaded up and left. I went with the rest of the group to Moon Rocks. Played around there for a bit and decied to head back to camp. On the way back, my track bar broke. I got that rigged back together and limped back to camp.
I changed the flat, loaded everything up and headed out. On the way out, I got another flat. Only had one spare. I made my way down to Whistlin Jacks, got some fix a flat, plugs etc. but could not get that tire to hold. By now, I am tired, dirty and pissed. Finally decided we would have to spend the night there. Unfortunately, all the rooms were full. So, I took all the stuff out of the back of the Tahoe, and crammed it in the XJ, laid out the sleeping bags and the wife, kid and I slept in the Tahoe, in the parking lot. Sometime doring the night, the wife wakes me and points out that there is some creep standing on the trailer, looking in the windows of the Jeep. We made some noise and he took off.
The next day, I unhooked the trailer and went to Yakima to get some tires. Got them back on the trailer and headed home.
I will post the second one later.

Ok, round two.
A week before Christmas 2006, a large group of us headed up to Goat Mt. for some snow wheeling. It had been a fairly uneventful trip up to the towers, where we stopped to have some lunch and hang out for a few. A couple of us decided to go rown the road a bit and play in a rock quarry. After watching a couple of rigs make a short, steep hill climb, and one get denied, I decided to try it. Didn't make it on the first try, so I backed up and hit it again. Right at the top, the Jeep swung to the left, flipped and landed square on it's lid. Once I got my bearings, I shut the rig off, and made sure my wife and 5yo son were OK. We were all still secure in our seats. My wife was able to get herself unbuckled and she helped me get out. I don't recall exactly how my son was extracted, as it was all a blur.
Once out of the vehicle, it was winched back over so the rubber side was down. We assessed the damage and it was not good. Crushed roof, bent passenger doors, broken glass and wrinkled fenders.
The windshield was removed, and an ammo can was placed on the passenger side floor. We then set a hi-lift on the ammo can and proceeded to jack the roof up. We were then able to get the doors to latch shut. After topping off the fluids, I got in to start it and nothing happened...no click, no noise...nothing. After a few seconds, I heard someone yell "Put it in park!' Oh, right...got it!
It fired up easily enough, so I let it sit and idle for a bit. I decided to drive it around to make sure everything was working like it should. Placing the trans in drive resulted in a lot of steam! Something told me this wasn't right!
I shut it down and popped the hood. A quick inspection revealed a heater hose tee that had broken. I stood there, dumbfounded, and still trying to get my wits about me, while others re-routed the hoses to eliminate the tee. The problem was that it also eliminated the heater core. So, here I am, in feet of snow, at the top of the mountain, in a vehicle with no windshield and no heater. I believe the temp was around 26 degrees.
My wife and son were loaded into another rig, and I got bundled up in fleece, insulated gloves and whatever else I could bum from people for the long drive to Colton.
By the time we got to the bottom, I was cold, tired and still pretty shaken. I also had an impressive frozen crust of snot on my upper lip!
Jake (Twisted) was kind enough to let us hang out at his house while Trainwreck and Raven trailered their buggy home. The came back empty so the Jeep could be loaded up and hauled to their shop.
I spent the next few weeks without my daily driver XJ while a roof was grafted on. Once that was done, I hauled it home and put the rest of it back together. I am still driving it every day.

My worst day of wheeling happened a couple months ago where I managed to blow up an open IFS hub in the parking lot of Walker. YAY for passenger seats. :booo:
