Seatbelt ticket.

Just got another no seatbelt ticket.:mad: I was just getting onto the 1st ave bridge heading S. to go up the Burien freeway.

The cop said, and I quote, "you have to have your seatbelt on before you enter the highway", (or freeway), I foget exactly.

Sooo, does that mean that you can drive around town without it on?
I'm pretty sure the law is for any road, not just freeways.
Maybe he was just tipping his cards for me, and letting me know that that is all they are enforcing.

Put it on before you put the vehicle in gear and you'll never get another ticket for failure to obey the law. Yes this comes from a guy that has gotten 3 tickets for such stupidity, the last was about 4 years ago.

Seat belt law applies to any road...and has been in effect/enforced since the late 80's/early 90's....

My vote is for the seatbelt law to be abolished and anyone that is not wearing a seatbelt and is injured or injures someone in an accident shall not receive insurance to cover the damages. :awesomework:

Why abolish it??? Keep it in effect, and amend it to include loss of coverage if no belt is worn....:stirpot:

Because that just reiterates it's nanny state effect. Get rid of required insurance and seatbelt laws. If you have insurance then you can go without a seatbelt, if you don't have insurance then you had better have that belt on because if you wreck the tax payers are on the hook for your injuries.

You're kinda sorta on the right track, but what does your choice of personal safety equipment have to do with anyone else's safety?

Also, why should my insurance company decide whether or not to pay a claim based on anyone else's idea of correct safety equipment?

TOTALLY different. You not carrying insurance may have a very direct and very real effect on someone else. The way our traffic laws are structured, forced liability insurance is pretty much the only logical conclusion.

Tint your windows for they can't see in as easy. I do where my belt when needed, but I also drive alot without it.

On the other side of things. I have seen where seat belts have saved lives, but also seen where if the person could have moved, they would be alive today

It costs me $2.50 a month for uninsured motorist insurance. Had an uninsured biotch pull out in front of me and I t boned her. When it was all said and done she paid me for my deductible and she paid the insurance company back.

Im only alive because of a seatbelt. I had purple makes everywhere it touched me. The rest of the rig I destroyed was so smashed that the only place a person would fit was right in the belted position. The roof was pushing the steering wheel down on to my seat and the headliner was pushed into my face/forehead.

I have no problem wearing a seatbelt regardless of the law.

I've never been in a seatbelt any time I've been hit including one head on, but I realize that in certain violent collisions they will save lives. Therefore I agree I should probably wear one. I like the trunk monkey idea, just not the nanny laws.

Holy crap Brad! Damn!! I agree with you though, I have no problem putting my belt on at all times. It is actually a habit for me. I don't even think about it. Heck , I even put it on when driving around a jobsite.....:haha: I catch myself doing that though, and quickly remove it.:redneck:

The problem is, is it has never been a habbit for me. I never wore one (unless wheelin'), even as a kid. I remember being on a trip to Texas as a kid, and my sister kept harping on
me to put my seatbelt on, so I finally gave in and wrapped it around my neck and buckled it.

Oh well that makes all the difference! You should have told the officer wearing a seat belt had never been a habit, he surely would have stopped writing the citation and called Olympia at once to have them erase the previous citations for the same. :awesomework:

What I hate is the tickets I got when I WAS wearing my belt! If I get pulled over now, before they tell me what I'm being written up for, I let them know prior to any conversation that the incident has been recorded and transmitted to a safe location as I point to the decal on my window that states the same. (I usually preserve that to trips south. I haven't been hassled by many locals. Wish I'd had it running in my truck the day before my mom died)
