Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

Seems like it really comes down to: pick something that is the size, shape and features in your buget and run with it. Go to Costco, Video Only or were ever and stare at them. Talk to the salesmen (on a couple ocations), some of them actually know what they are talking about. Figure out what looks the best to YOU in your price point and run with it. Kind of sounds like they really are all about the same now, with just some variations on performance based on the technolgy.

Costco is nice for this since they (99% sure) have no commision so they don't care what you buy. Plus their prices are usually pretty good.

X2 on the "new found space". Mine hangs on the wall with all the "componants" built into a corner cabinet about 12' away and the cables in the wall. MASSIVE room now.

Also be carefull on the size. Only you can really determine what size is *perfect*, but the bigger it is, the farther back you have to be to really make it "proportioned". So if you have a small room.... is a 60er really the right choice........

We were conditioned for most of our lives to think a TV should be small. But, when you go to a theatre, even if you sit at the back, the size of the screen is huge compared to what we were used to at home. Of course, I like to sit closer to the front of the theatre, so I like a HUGE screen. It's hard for me to imagine a room too small for a 60-inch high def. TV.

One thing to remember also is when you go bigger the picture quality will not be as clear as the smaller tvs no matter what quality or brand you get. As most bigger tvs these days are HD and require the HD service to have a good quality picture. I have a high end TV but without the HD service its nothing to talk about.

:eeek:don't know what kind of plazma will actually produce heat that can be felt unless you actually touch the screen or hover over it? I love me a plazma and have not had a problem with mine. got a samsung 42" plazma thats nearly 9 years old. its even mounted above my wood burning insert and haven't had an issue with that either. seen em all and in several real situations...personally i think the plazma has the most realistic picture!:awesomework: and costco all the way...if you buy and don't like it costco will return almost anything no matter what:awesomework:

My plazma has MANY more cycles per second than the lcds and led tvs did.

Watching things like parades and races where some things move and others didnt, the leds and lcds made my eyes hurt. The plazmas let the moving things be seen very clearly like real life, not blury like the led/lcd tvs did.


How about when a few leds burn out? How ya like that dark spot now?

Ever touched the screen on your laptop? It gets all unhappy and distorted cuz the screen is as flimsy as a jeep cherokee.

I enjoy the THICK heavy GLASS screen that my plazma has, my pitbuls cant kill it with wagging tails smacking it. I dont think the led/lcd would last long with tails like that.

Have fun cleaning that ridge/porous surface that lcd/led tv comes with. It takes special cleaner to clean the lcd/led tvs too. I love being able to just WIPE my tv like my ass and its all clean.

Then the glare, the tv salesmen warned me about it. BS I went to the local sports bar and looked at the led,lcd, and plazmas in action around windows. I found the plazma to be great. I also found the lcd/led to be HORRIBLE. It was like trying to use a laptop outside.

Glare cuz the plazma is glass? Thats just a BS marketing ploy by lcd/led supporters. We have been watching GLASS tvs since the creation of TV. Wake up and ignore the marketers. Normal old tvs are glass, have been for decades.

Now onto to quality. The plazma is built with materials OTHER than plastic. It has a nice heavy solid feel. The LED/LCDs are very light and flimsy feeling. They are lit by cheapo leds or flourcents. Both are cheapo, light sources.

I love how they make a lighter (cheaper to ship) and cheaper garbage TV and then spend more on marketing than on quality to convince you that this "cheap new crap" is "state of the art".

Other than the HZ (number of cycles per second) I seen no difference in color or quality.

The cheap plazmas had a high HZ rating while the cheap led/lcd had a very low HZ rating. In order to get a lcd/led that didnt make me feel sick, it had to be a very expensive one that was over a grand for a 40 incher.


I got my awesome plazma at walmart for $440 and its a 42 inch, I think.

Its been kickin ass for years now. And they are about a hundred cheaper now.


LEDS are cheap to produce, NOT state of the art technology. :beer:

Your account reminds me of the very early LCD computer monitors that had MASSIVE blur, to the point of being unusable for games. Modern LCD's don't do that.

Also, the 120hz LCD's are pretty cheap now. They've moved on. The pricing gimmick now is the 3D ****. Even the LED stuff is kind of "last year". I see the plasmas with 600hz refresh, but I'm very skeptical that you can really see any real different past 120hz.

I just bought my 42" Insignia plaz last yr christmas...No regrets!!! Yes, you put an LED 120hz next to a plaz which is 600hz, both same size tv's----you CAN see the difference; it IS night and day....you will notice it gaming...
Oh, and the power thing---yeah, it's gonna pull more energy, BUT compared to 6 yrs old technology, my plaz was still 1/2 of my previous projection Sony=so I'm still saving energy!:redneck:

I just looked and mine is a 42 inch Insignia too. Now I remember it. We bought it at Best Buy for $440 on sale.

I was thinking of Walmart cuz the next day I seen they had a Vizio 42 incher that was identicle to ours just a different name on it.

I could see the difference plain as day in the HZ. Put a cheap plazma (600HZ) next to a cheap LCD/LED (60 HZ) and the difference is HUGE.

Put a cheap plazma (600HZ) next to a better LCD/LED (120HZ) and its still very noticible but better. It took a LCD/LED that was over a grand to have the same clarity as the CHEAPEST plazma.


I just felt my 42 inch plazma (front and back) and it room temp. Its the ol ladies day off and its been on since 10 AM.

Hz is hz though---Yeah, I could also have stepped way up in $$ for an LCD/LED with a better refresh rate than 120hz (I believe the next step was 240hz at the time)...still not 600hz...I am extremely happy with our purchase, and it was under $400 at the time.
It's all about what you want to/plan to do with the tv though---just trying to help ya out!

that thing a triple wide and I never noticed :D.

I will admit, mine's a 50" and we sit about 8' back from it. It was HUGE at the time compared to the old "big screen" rear projection we had, but now a-days I wouldn't have minded it being a little bigger.


Still plenty big however, and really the desire for 'bigger' is only that it COULD be bigger today... for the same money or cheaper.

my eye does not see it really but when i play on line gaming i get my ass kicked when on my lcd but when I move over to a faster tv like one of my tube TV's I can hold my own playing against the same group of people... the refresh rates is that much different. Now with just watching tv or movies I don't see anything different.

I vote you check out Costco as well I bought both my LCD/LED TV and they are the best price to size I could find.
 
I have 2 plasma's one is a Vizio that is years old and is 50" it has been a great TV. I wanted a new TV for all Of the Fights I host and was sicl of Moving the TV up and down stairs for right before New Years eve I decided to buy a new TV. I wanted an LED but was not happy with the Price for 55". I was at Best Buy looking at the TV's with my wife and she liked a Plasma and I liked and LED. When we talked to a salesman and I told him what I use the
TV for he talked me in to a Plasma again. I ended up buying the LG 60" Plasma and it has been a solid TV and I am happy with it.

In addition I have friends who have LCD and my brothers have LCD and my TV's picture blows theirs away. I will take a Plasma over plain LCD any day.
 
I have a 50" Plasma LG that I bought after my old rear projection took a dump this last December. So far been very happy with it. The whole "glass screen" bit doesn't bother me, I rarely watch TV unless it's dark and if I feel like watching something during the day, I close the curtains. That's how it always was before with TV's all my life anyway, so it's no big deal.

The picture is amazing, especially with blu-ray DVD's. This is the first TV I've ever had that I can watch HD on, since the old one did not have a built-in tuner and all I had was a regular old DVD player before. I have extended basic cable from Localtel over Chelan PUD's fiber network, and with the built-in digital tuner, I get most of the channels in unencrypted HD for my 50 bucks a month to LocalTel.

The only thing that bothers me is that even with modern plasma's, you still get some temporary "burn-in" that appears if you have something on the screen for a while.... For example, if I'm watching something in the old 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9 or whatever, I get lines on the side of the screen for a while, but they go away after watching something full screen for a bit. From what I understand, this is normal for Plasma.

haha nope but it takes up the whole addition in the living room. That and the movies.

I admit after having such a big tv. I could handle going smaller.. Michale's thinking 50-55"

The only reason I haven't wanted to get a new tv sooner, is ours does split screen. I haven't heard of any doing that anymore. Just picture in picture. a 62 inch tv is awesome for gaming and watching tv when you can do split screen lol

That is something I wish mine did. Always wanted picture in picture... since I end up watching multiple shows usually (I hate commercials) and it does get old flipping back and forth to see if your show is on. Do any of the new TV's do that anymore?
