Love all the hype about protecting the middle class yet the government sure doesn't mind sticking their hands deep down into my pockets! Worked 50 hrs last pay period, 60 this pay period, yet only made $200 more. Long story short on overtime I took a substantial pay decrease from my regular wage. Glad Obama and the boys got the middle classes back?:masturbanana[1]:

Yeah, trying to figure out the point of working lots of hours, must just be to keep my job!

Try working on a salary/ commission check. They tax the unholy hell out of that bonus!!!!!

Just remember all those tax dollars are for the good of the middle class, taxing the **** out of us will defiantly create growth,

Of Government!

Today I got a $320 bonus and there was $124 in taxes taken out. The Gov takes 33% of my paycheck then I get to pay another 9.3% tax when I buy something at the store.

You guys new to this game? Think $500 increments, Just under 1k just under 1500 and so on. I cut off the overtime at just under 1k gross. Go over and holy hell!! Or you push it to just under 1500 gross. It's the best you can do if your hourly.

Not new to this game. I have the same hourly wage as last year, but my checks are considerably smaller this year for the same amount of overtime

Something else to help counter react it is stick as much away as you can in your 401k.

The benefit to my job is, OT goes towards more vacation, and the company matches my contribution to my VIP. So I still get screwed on taxes, but at least it doesn't hurt as much.

I remember my Grandpa Would Watch His Stubs Every Week To Find His Sweet Spot OnA 40 Hour Week, He Made The Most Working 37 Hours Or Something, And Would Turn That In, Even If It Was 40 Or 42 And The Same With Ot, Like 49 But Not 50 Or 51. In The End, More In His Pocket, less At The End Of The Year To Tax. He Had Mor Patience Than I Do, I'm Not Even Interested In Why Phone Is Capitizing Every Word I Type......

My wife has insurance through her work I have dental and vision through her. I got glasses last summer and paid $240 or so for them AFTER insurance... WTF I can go to Costco and pay less out of pocket without insurance.

Her insurance is just under $400 a month and it is ****. My work had the secretary helping do payroll for a few weeks and the dumb **** screwed up my check 3 cycles in a row. On one she shorted me 3 days work which was more than my wifes total check for 2 weeks. :haha:

Your taxes have to go up. It is your duty as a citizen to make sure Obama keeps his swing in check and can extend his drive out a few more yards.

The first time I heard him talk about working on his handicap I thought he was talking about a tune up on moochelle.

Didn't you notice the new "EBT" accepted here sign at the store a 1/4 mile from yer house?

Keep up the good work so the tweekers that used to live behind the store (that now live right by you) can continue to trade EBT for dope.

Its the new American way!

Some of you guys are just winers!... Yeah there's a bit more taken out of your check when you work overtime but it evens out on your return at the end of the year. There's no separate column on your tax return for overtime income.
You can contact your employer and have the wages deducted from your check adjusted but it will just make your end of year tax return smaller......

I'm pretty sure there were some tax breaks that expired, so I will keep whining cause everyone always has to cut back except the bloated government

Tax breaks have nothing to do with your paycheck deductions. What's taken out of your check is set by you and can be changed by you..... Though it's not legal I've known people who have elected to have no federal tax withheld from their check (tax exempt) just to get a bigger paycheck. At the end of the year they still owe the same taxes but had to come up with all of the money to pay them.

And this.

All other factors the same, you will never make less money by working more hours if you actually look at total federal tax owed versus total income. Even if you bump yourself into the next tax bracket, the higher rate only applies to the amount of money earned that is over the break point between the two. If your paycheck drops from working OT, it's because of the way your deductions are set and applied by your company (or their payroll service), and it will be offset by an appropriate difference in your refund/payment at the end of the year.

Granted, year-to-year differences due to tax cuts or cuts that expired... those can be a pain in the ass.

Taxes are a moot point IMO compared to health care cost's....
I've been fortunate to have little in the way of major medical costs (oh yeah... and no kids... that helps), so even just looking at federal income taxes, I pay WAY more in taxes than health care costs (even counting my insurance premiums).
