From the pics I saw from Jeremy looks like there is a fire on the ridge someplace... Any info?
 
There was a fire somewhat adjacent to the FS1701 road. I believe it is currently being monitored. There was a couple 20 person hand crews on it the second day after it was discovered. The fire started from a lighting strike from the series of storms that went thru the area a couple weeks ago. It was first observed as a rising wisp of smoke then confirmed by an air observer.

Don't think that is the same one we are looking at the smoke from..... this smoke wasn't there until tonight about 4-5pm ish....

Damn, now there's one on Manashtash too? There's already one over at rimrock that may not let me get over there either........ Really messin with my wheelin plans....... :mad:

www.inciweb.org doesn't show the Manashtash fire yet and the Rimrock fire is 12% contained....... :beer: to our firefighters.

A fire was reported yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of the FS1915 road. It was reported this morning as being 30 to 40 acres. There are no closures as of yet but this is in the area of the Kaner (676) trail. I'll update info as I receive it.
 
.. this is what it looked like tonight. I was told that it started near Shoestring Lake and had made its way to Lost Lake. Don't know if thats right, but its what I hear...

was at the rocks on saturday late afternoon and saw a large flash over that way. was odd because it didnt really seem like lightning weather. its too bad everyone is all spread out over the other fires, this one looks like it has major destruction potential, looking at the flames shooting up on the mountain last night from a reecer creek perspective.

Dry lightning is the worst kind available...... We get it here occasionally and it makes a mess without the rain to put out what it starts.....

The Manastash Ridge Fire started August 19th from a lightning strike that occurred on the weekend of August 9th. The fire is located on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest along Manastash Ridge, south of Shoestring Lake.

The fire is approximately 400 acres and is located on the Cle Elum Ranger District side of the ridge. In the afternoon, the fire can be visible from Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and Naches. Both the Cle Elum and the Naches Ranger Districts plan to issue area closures near the fire for public and firefighter safety. At this time the public is advised to stay out of the Manastash recreational area.

Yesterday crews established a safe anchor point and are proceeding on the flanks of the fire building direct and indirect line. There are approximately 50 personnel assigned to the fire including two handcrews, rapellers, smoke jumpers, and various air resources. Many crews are camping overnight in the area to have better access to the remote fire.

Fire managers are continuously monitoring the weather and fire behavior as warm and dry conditions are expected today through Thursday. Last night the fire was reported active until 1am. Forest managers remind recreationalist and other forest visitors that fire danger remains high and there are still campfire restrictions in place on both the Naches and Cle Elum Ranger District.
 
Looks to be just east of the " Rock Garden" slightly South and west of Shoestring lake.. Headed for the ridge in a general direction towards 'Funny Rocks"

The area may be posted closed Thursday.

I was planning on taking the family and the dirt bikes to ride up in the Little Naches area. How close is this fire to there? Hate to drive 2-1/2 hours only to be turned away.
 
Looks like it has grown to 700 acres now...

The Manastash Ridge Fire started August 19th from a lightning strike that occurred on the weekend of August 9th. The fire is located on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest along Manastash Ridge, south of Shoestring Lake.

A transition to will occur at 6am August 23, 2013. Washington Incident Management Team 4 will assume command of the fire.

The fire is approximately 700 acres. 70 personnel are assigned to the fire. The majority of the fire is located on the north side of the ridge on the Cle Elum Ranger District. In the afternoon, the fire can be visible from Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and Naches. Both the Cle Elum and the Naches Ranger Districts plan to issue area closures near the fire for public and firefighter safety. At this time the public is advised to stay out of the Manastash recreational area.

Fire managers are continuously monitoring the weather and fire behavior as warm and dry conditions are expected today through Friday. Fire behavior has been active well into the night. Trails climbing towards the fire will be closed. M/C trails affected/portions closed in the Little Naches will be 948,949,966,965. This could change.\ quickly. After the office closes on Friday afternoon you will not be able to get info. I spend most of my day out of cell coverage. You may want to make other plans.
 
Mikki stated on their face book page that the fire was burning in the ground and would probably burn until snowfall. We put a fire on the ridge a few years from someones campfire and it was in the ground up there, it took us a good hour to put out a fire 15ft in diameter that started from a campfire.
