Smokey as **** here in the valley today. Not sure if it is all from the Manastash fire, or if there is another one cookin'....?? I couldn't even see Manastash Ridge today from my yard.
Any info on Manashtash ridge fire?

The Manastash Ridge Fire started August 19th from a lightning strike that occurred on the weekend of August 9th. The fire is located on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest along Manastash Ridge, south of Shoestring Lake.
A transition to will occur at 6am August 23, 2013. Washington Incident Management Team 4 will assume command of the fire.
The fire is approximately 700 acres. 70 personnel are assigned to the fire. The majority of the fire is located on the north side of the ridge on the Cle Elum Ranger District. In the afternoon, the fire can be visible from Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and Naches. Both the Cle Elum and the Naches Ranger Districts plan to issue area closures near the fire for public and firefighter safety. At this time the public is advised to stay out of the Manastash recreational area.
Fire managers are continuously monitoring the weather and fire behavior as warm and dry conditions are expected today through Friday. Fire behavior has been active well into the night. Forest managers remind recreationists and other forest visitors that fire danger remains high and there are still campfire restrictions in place on both the Naches and Cle Elum.

Hope they can get this fire out ASAP, ground fires are a nightmare. We don't get them much here cos the ground is so hard and rocky but I have dealt with a couple when I lived up there.......

There is a fire down by the dalles too. Its smokey as all fawk in the gorge but clear here go figure.

You need the MS Silverlight plugin for your browser. Zoom in on the fire to see the borders and area it's burning in overlaid on a map of the area. If you change the basemap you can even see satellite imagery with the fire area overlaid.
Not sure how up to date it is, but I used it pretty exensively to watch the Colockum Tarps fire over here and it was pretty accurate for that.

Wow, our whole adopt-a-trail burned, most of the shoestring and most of the trail on the ridge between tipover and shoestring.

On a side note I really hope the firefighters and all personell involved are safe and well taken care of..... We have had a rough season for fires and especially fire fighters down here this year..... :beer:

The west is burning and the FS and land agency's have no money to do anything about it. The congress has been hoodwinked by the environmental groups so well that there is no money left to fix the problem. When we were kids the FS was actually a self sustainable entity. The environmental groups have taken that away with their anti logging agenda. The FS has even given up on even trying to thin out the dead trees for fear of the lawsuits that they cant afford to fight. Its time to pressure congress to look at what they have done and get them to fund the FS properly.
True, forest\property= nothing compared to a life. We will all be saddened to see this area burnt,but better to let it burn itself out than lose someone.

At some point it all has to burn. We've been fighting fires too aggressively for generations. We've learned that forests have to burn to be healthy but now there's so much fuel that it just kills everything. I hate to see my backyard burn but at some point it has too. I just got my 4 runner running and ready for this weekend, oh well. BTW Pokey, that 4.3 is running great. Thanks
Glad to hear it was a good runner. Never know with the mystery motors.

had a good rain last night and spotted shower today. couldnt see any smoke where i was at today. hate to hear about al the acreage burned so far but should be more fun on the ol 2-stroke sleigh this winter.
