6th Annual Twin Lakes First Snow Run!

Is there going to be another run this weekend? :hi:

I'll go again!

So far the weather is NOT cooperating with us for this weekend...Snow level cllimbed to ~6500ft, and that does not bode well for the road to the lakes. IF we get a cold snap and precip, there will be a run most likely Sunday. Won't know till last minute (Friday night-ish...). If it doesn't work out this weekend, the following weekend is a very strong possibility.:awesomework:

I was at Twin Lakes last weekend. Only a couple feet of snow. Nothing great. All the snow boarders, skiers and snow shoers were up there too since they haven't opened up the resort yet. The road is flat and packed down from the hippies. The snow started around 4000'. Pulled out a couple people. Was nice to play in the snow for the first time this season though.

I'm going to try to get my fenders done this weekend so if there is a run the following weekend I can go.

Just looked at the current forecast. Some good and bad news.

First the bad...
It certainly did warm up. At 5000ft it was nearly 40F outside this week. Coupled with rain, I bet there isn't much more than 6-12" on the ground until you get near the top.

But the good!
Its GONNA SNOW FRIDAY!! and by snow, I mean 1000ft snow levels, and upto 2 FEET of snow. Not only that, but the weather is followed by a really cold air mass, which will scour out the clouds and make for a really nice Saturday and Sunday (but cold).

So would I go this weekend? It probably will be fairly easy to get to the top still (I think at most there will be 3 feet), but it should be really scenic with all the new snow above 2000ft. You should also be able to get around the hippies as the snow should get hard much lower than it was this week.

There is talk of possible flooding and a heavy system a week from today (20th-21st), but no word on temperatures, or if it'll be rainy through saturday.

I hope the weather works for next weekend, as mine seems to be filling up pretty quick this weekend. Not ruling out a run up, but... :yikes:

Uhhh.... If this is remotely correct, the next 48hours could mean almost 3 feet of snow at Twin Lakes.

Most of the models are calling for significant snow accum above 2000ft...I guess we will see!!! Also, there is a slight warming trend for early next week, with another cooling event by the weekend, so it maaaaay still be open for an attempt next weekend as well...:cheer:

Split Rock is at ~3300ft, so I imagine there will be some if the cold front goes that far south...

Typo Kev? I think it is more like 2300 ft not higher than Snoq pass. If it was that high there would be feet of snow there all winter. Still might get some snow with 2000 ft snow levels forecast. I might be in for another run to Twin Lakes next week if it looks good.

Google the elevation for Split Rock, and you will find this...And technically yes, it was a typo, but by only ~100ft! :redneck: I was only guessing, since the Skill building area (where the V-crack rock is) is at ~2000 ft...:D
