HWY 20 got its first snow above 5000ft (Sept 28, 2013), which means theres snow at the Top of the lakes!

Coming to Whatcom county, November 9th -- the first snow run of the year up to Twin Lakes near Mt. Baker

When?
NOVEMBER 9th!

Latest reports seem to indicate wetter than normal and COOLER than normal.. The 4000ft level is supposed to get 2ft of snow this weekend (the 2nd) and another foot or two next week. After the 9th, its supposed to stay cool and snow more, so I doubt we'll make it to the top if we wait until Dec.

Previous Runs
2012: November 17th (Made it to lakes), December 1st (made it to 4th switchback)
2011: November 12th (Made it to lakes), November 19th (made it to 4th Switchback),
2010: November 20th (made it to the lakes),
2009: November 14th (made it 1 mile past Yellow Aster butte trail).
2008: December 15th (made it to the lakes).

Requirements
Tires with GOOD tread / works in the snow
Must have a license plate
at least one locker*
food
sled? snowboard for the kids? its a fun ride down if you're a passenger!

What to expect
Last year we had a few different runs, each around 10-15 vehicles. Basically we will try to get the most well equipped rigs near the front, which will start early to break trail, and the lesser equipped rigs near the back. Even those with less equipped rigs will have fun, as the views are stellar, and its a good chance to drive in the snow without fear of being left behind.

Where? Meet up spot and Breakfast
The Hungry Bear in Deming, WA -- 8:00AM or earlier NOT Chair 9. (They decided they won't open for breakfast this year) Leaving the Hungry Bear by 8:45AM for the Glacier Ranger station

Meetup spot if you aren't eating breakfast
Goto the glacier ranger station (10091 Mt Baker Hwy, Glacier, WA 98244), we'll leave there around 9:15am.

If you're late, you can catch up with us here. Plenty of space to park your tow rig, out of sight from the hwy.

Dinner
North Fork Brewery has really good beer and pizza. It seems that going there after 6pm works pretty well. After having a few beers and pizza and bullshittin, we left just before 8pm.

So post up if you can go, I'll keep a list here. If you wanna see the epic post of previous years, click here..

You can park at my place with the trailer if you want...it's close to town, but only about 45 minutes from the turnoff to the lakes...

I have room for folks wanting to trailer their rigs, but are street legal to drive up to the mountain from town.

Dang! Too bad the 80's got no lockers and little tires! I'd like to make this one again.
