Cummins p/s pump

The only place I have seen the case crack is at the front due to the dowel pin. The back side leaks have all been from the crap gasket they used.

That's exactly what I am talking about---the GASKET cracking and pushing out/apart causing the leak, happens around the bolt holes most often...not the case cracking for no reason! :D

gotcha, you had me a little worried..

When I took care of the dowel pin. I started removing the case bolts one at a time and re-torquing them with some lock tite. Most of the time they are loose.

So ya if yer rig has miles on it make sure to get the vacuum pump seal kit.. Mine was a GUSHER after the pump but its all fixed up now..

Doing the vacuum pump is a piece of cake.

Back aways from what, the gear cover? On the driver's side or passenger side?

Yes back aways from the front of the engine on drivers side. The oil is running down between the engine block and about the exact center of the power steering pump. There is a small bracket that bolts to the side of the block and front of the pump, the oil is dripping off the bottom of this bracket.

Sure sounds like what Mike just fixed

Bill (Blue 1st gen in our club) was having p/s issues here recently on his rig (99 4.3 Vortec running the Saginaw)...Oreilly's pumps IIRC. The original finally quit working after 10 yrs (had been getting worse over the last yr where it'd quit when hot). The first replacement was noisy as all getout, the second replacement was quiet, but made it 20 minutes before the shaft broke...Finally got a unit from Napa and all is well...
Could be just dumb luck...
