I was going to bring up old billboard tarps and I see cisco linked them. I want to use one for a garage for my van and the Mustang if I can get it up here.

For the ridgeline and side purlins I was thinking of using pvc pipe as it's more cost effective than metal and will still hold up just fine. What diameter/size pipes are they?

Time to get stuff done..

I started prepping the ground and after 5 mins of trying to do it by hand I grabbed the tractor and got it done allot quicker. It was already pretty flat but there were a few humps I was able to work out....

Got the bases layed in place and made connecting pieces that tie the 2 half's together.

And got the hoops roughly set into place.. I need to adjust them to where I want them and get a 2x4 for the top support next. But its looking like something now..

So I ended up getting some 3/4 water pipe since I didn't have anything laying around that would do what I wanted. I also grabbed some U bolts and up to $65 out of pocket.....

So To secure the hoops in the base I simply drilled and tapped the base tubes..

And the frame portion is now 100% done... Almost there...

If we ever get a good snow again it will be hard to clear it off the one side. Other than that it looks great!

I like the structure, but agree that snow is going to wreak havoc. You don't want the weight pinched there between yer buildings..

Never thought about snow--I can move it over a tad if need be.

Nothing is holding it down right now--its not close to light and being open on both sides I can't see it wanting to lift off. I am going to bend some rebar and anchor it a little but if there are nasty winds I can easily anchor it to the toy.

Tie that thing down!!! I built a 12x22x14 feet high cover for our camper built out of medium thickness square metal tube (old fence posts) heavy as hell. Covered with a thick tarp material and in high winds it will start to pull the tiedowns out of the ground.

My carport was open on 3 sides yet it took off like a kite and nearly took the mobile home with it! Lifted the front corner almost a foot off the ground then dropped back down, knocking me and the fridge over. Finally tore loose and dropped on the neighbor's carport, flattening it but that was sure a long 10 seconds! :mad:

I am going to stake it down in a couple spots just for piece of mind.... Its only 7ft tall and I could see something allot taller having more lift off capabilities,lol

Had I known mine could do that, I would've aimed my security camera up more. I'm in Lynnwood and it wouldn't have happened if the management hadn't cut down the row of trees on my lot that was blocking the blast from the south for the past 30 years. The way this place is set up, the wind is funneled through the complex in a sweeping curve that gets fed more from between each home, similar to feeding a turbo, and mini-twisters happen here in every elevated windstorm from the south. The insurance agent estimated a sustained gust of over 70 mph to tear the 4 anchors out of the ground and concrete.

I finally got around to getting a 20x20 10mil tarp and it fits almost perfect..
