Yacolt Burn Trails, Camas Wa.

Took the Red wagon out for some playtime with a local 4WD group in our playground this week.

The trails that exist currently are Base trails, nothing to exciting except for the features that we added over the years.

My local club is building several miles of new trail that will be aimed at the experienced driver with a modified vehicle. These trails will rated as Difficult, to most difficult.

Enjoy the short ride through both the Deer Pen trail and the Hagen Creek trail. As I was coming up over the filter out of Hagen, my Dashcam power supply decided to abandon ship, so I apologize for the abrupt ending.

Yes they are. There are a couple clubs working very hard right now mappimg out and marking new trails that will be rated difficult to most difficult. You have to start somewhere. Maybe instead of knocking it you should get involved. Unless more people get involved instead of *****ing about everything then that is all we will get. Logging roads called trails.

When Pistons Wild first started as an official club several years ago, we had to prove to the DNR that we know how to build and maintain trails. As such, we were only allowed to start with Base trails. We have a the funding and approval to build (at this time) 6 miles of new trail rated as difficult to most difficult.

That extension to our base trails is called C14 (for the moment, that will change when completed). I have personally worked on a section (The most difficult rated section), which we call internally, "Old Ugly". I promise, it will be worth it.

Now, quit your complaining, get out, join a club and support the sport.

You must not wheel much? Gravel a road toss some rocks down dig some holes and vuala instant trail! Everyone's doing it don't ya know. Pretty sad we're slowly paving and taking away the natural obsticles that is special and indigenous to each area. I personally can't wait till ohv goes to private property/parks like they do in the south.

I did :awesomework: I'm not pissing on new trails, I don't agree with all the road building and paving of these so called "trails" and your right, I do agree with choppy. But it's also fun to get your panties in a bunch! :fawkdancesmiley:

We are these days forced to work withen the constraints of the governing best thing you can do is support the areas that you like and don't disparage the ones you don't. The hardest part is that I agree with Jeremy. But instead of whining about it, I try to do what I can to change it. Cool things can happen when people put in the work. Many people gave up on Reiter and while some aren't happy about the results, there are some awesome things happening up there. At Elbe, with a fulltime operator and some grant funds it's becoming better than it's ever been with far more to come... Yacolt is turning nothing into something but it takes time and patience.

This picture was taken while marking a new route for a trail in Yacolt. Its not a rock dropped in the middle of a trail by an excavator. That is a natural rock ledge that continues on for quite a ways under the duff.

I was one of the first volunteers to work on the new trail. C14 is the official designation until it's complete and we officially name it. Internally, we call it "old ugly". It's the old log skidder path. It's going to a good one for sure. Some parts are about 60 degrees. Most of closer to 30 or 40 degrees. We have a long way to go, but we will get there. It's already a popular system, especially the rock gardens on the Hagen Creek trail. and your picture failed to load. :(

The hardest part is that I agree with Jeremy. But instead of whining about it, I try to do what I can to change it. Cool things can happen when people put in the work. Well I don't support the better than nothing mentality. Joining a group right now doesn't fit needs because they also fold under somethings better than nothing mentality. Why do I see other states adding mild to wild trails in their areas while we are forced to make a change by turning our trails into roads. So I guess I am part of a group.. the I don't agree with either side group. So my question is.. how do you join and support a group that doesn't support your views?

The problem is folks have the mentality that "I don't wanna get involved--I just wanna use". Now a direct result of that is we have little to no backing. Anybody who knows how the system works it takes "ALLOT" of money and "MANPOWER" to fight the powers that be.

Now not only are we fighting that on the other side we have the tree huggers who have literally unlimited funds and manpower--who has the biggest push?

So the end result is what do we do? Its a big old catch 22 and our only option is to compromise or loose out completely.

If somebody has the will and $$$ to change the world by all means go for it.

Why do we not push for private parks, so that we don't need to work within the constraints of the government? What if as a user group you tell the government Noone will participate in paving practices? I agree with your comment each trial area is different and offers variety to users but when all areas become gravel roads with rock piles to drive over and log crawls to play on... where's your variety?

I also think most do want get involved problem is when they do.. they usually have a bigger local group pushing their idea of how things should go... and if they voice different they are usually ridiculed by the group.. just what I've seen.. from being "involved "

I don't think anyone has given in, I think the compromise is not remotely in our best interest and it's sad and fustrating

We have compromised ourselves as a user group into road builders what happens when the government decides all the foreign rocks we've transplanted into the forest is deemed harmful... what's the next compramise? When you build a trail and it looks like a driveway .. don't you see something wrong with that?? I mean one guy has already said the "trail" he worked so hard on looks like a road... well I was raised with notion of... if it walks and quacks like a duck it's usually a duck..
