Guy found dead at reiter....Weird story.

Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

cowboy invites us to chill at his camp, 100 yards away from the pavement. so we said okay. me and nike both got a weird vibe from both guys, you know when your gut hurts and something doesnt seem right. you fallow your gut. . so we turned around and met dude back at his camp. the cowboy and kid are in the bronco, windows fogged up and shuffling inside the rig. kinda like fighting around inside. me and nike look at each other and said **** this....

then we heard banjo music...:eeek:

kinda gives our area a black eye and am very interested in the actual story if we ever actually get to hear it.

Although I am not familiar with rieter It was my understanding that it was closed at night just like all DNR areas. I was wondering why Niki and Paul were there at 3:30am when they should be aware of the rules since they frequent this site so much:eeek: Its problems like this that create the rules designed to keep us all safe. If everyone had been paying attention to the rules then none of this would have happened. Just my observation
 
ALWAYS have multiple people, and preferrably multiple rigs.
And I carry, just about everywhere.
Beth needs to renew Her CPL, but she packs sometimes, as well.

I know most people don't agree with the rules, therefor don't follow them but Jim is 100% correct.

technically it says no night wheeling...if you are driving on the road, in a street legal vehicle, paved or gravel it's not wheeling. it called driving so i dont think paulie and nikki were in the wrong. from my take on the DNR rule they dont want dangerous events like riding bikes,quads, and non street legal vehicles being used after dark off the roads....

either way im thinking the authorities should hear paulies story. might help them fit the remaining pieces to the puzzle together for the kids family...
 
This whole thing just seems too odd.. If the guy was found where I think he was--what the hell was he doing up there? And I have asked that gate to be locked a # of times...

Then I may be wrong. the rules may be differant there. At Elbe your not event allowed on the roads after dark and I believe the same goes at Tahuya Both are DNR areas.

I agree that gate need's to be locked.No one should be up there anyway

yea but forest service roads fall under the state rules and unless they close I5 at night i think its still ok to drive at night.

i have asked KIM what thier intent was at reiter and she stated: they dont want people driving offroad vehicles of any kind at night unless they are street legal, eg all lights intact and working. she specifically mentioned quads, bikes and buggys. take that for what its worth. what im saying is paulie and nikki have nothing to fear about being in an area closed at night as im assuming they were in a street legal vehicle. :;

then again i believe the stumpthumpers are having thier 24hour run with DNR permit at reiter real soon...

also agree on closing the gate, no viable trails or wheeling in that area. close it and lock it.

Just for the record Me and Paulie were NOT wheeling at night. We were in My jeep which is street legal. We were driving on the paved roads and the gravel roads and were off the last trail by dusk saturday night. We were bored since everyone at our camp went to sleep earlier. We criused the beggining of the enterance to the wall trail turned around 250ft into that trail than went back down on the paved rd and turned into the gravel enterance towards the rock garden, where the rest of the story plays out.

Last I heard Paulie was waiting for the detective on the case to contact him back and we are both more than willing to speak to whomever we can to help out with the case.

Just glad that you guys made it out, without being involved any further than you have.

things like this just make it worse for the whole community of the sport...
Now you have more people out there wanting to, or are carrying weapons, which in itself can lead to their own list of troubles.

Don't get me wrong, I have one myself and carry it often, legally, but also I don't let other know when I have it or not... especially if there is alcohol involved. I have seen too many bad and stupid things done in my time because of this...

Just glad you are all OK... and dang, if I had known there was a group up there.. I would have made the drive.. I have yet to do any wheeling in that area!!!
 
It sounds like drunk ass hat drove his rig off the embankement and got somebody killed.

No drinking and driving/wheeling. No offroad activities after dark.

As drunk as it sounds like this guy was, he could have driven off of any embankement up there, and if he wasn't at Reiter, would have driven into the back of a parked bus, or who knows what.

Darwin is just doing his job. I say we leave the gate open and put a sign on it, "massive kegger and naked *****es this way, turn lights off or no free beer for you".

There is a ton more to this story, Who knows what though...Its just way too odd.
 
i think that we should close that area off considering that the gate doesnt stay locekd for very long. every time i had ever gone that way, even in the daytime i got a wierd vibe. too many things are down that cliff. give it the wall trail treatment. maybe put up a cable fence/barrier at the edge of the cliff to prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

The problem is it needs to be accesable by a vehicle for the power company...
 
the cliff you guys are talking about, is it by the fenced in facility op the road past the wall trail?

As far as i understand, it is on the way up to the wall trail on yer right. There used to be a long hill climb at the side of the road that climbed to it...then a bit down the road to the right is the real entrance that SHOULD be locked down all the time..(its gated)

I remember when they first blocked that all off, I wonder why the gate isnt always locked now.
 
oh, you turn hard right off of the road to the wall trail, thru a gate, and out to a cliff, right?

You can thank idiots for popping the lock--its supposed to be locked closed. This is the same place we spent a good day trying to recover a # of rigs from over the edge--not a place I would want to go over(just like stuff at rimrock)
