Are you old enough and have lived here long enough to remember the old Motor Vehicle Excise Tax? It was HUGE, like ENORMOUSLY HUGE. I was personally paying $600 for a single vehicle 13 years ago. Where did all of THAT money go? We should have roads paved with gold from all of the money the state received from that tax. So what happened? And it's not like our infrastructure has fallen into sudden disrepair in the relatively short amount of time since the MVET was done away with by voters.
The purchaser of the $100,000 Mercedes has already paid 4 times as much in sales tax (roughly an additional $6,700) as has the purchaser of the $25,000 pickup truck? That is not "progressive" enough for you? :wtf:
Not only that, but being larger and heavier, the pickup truck causes more wear to the road system than does the Mercedes. But the Mercedes owner should be expected to pay more? :wtf:
Maybe we should have a new resident tax. Everyone moving here is assessed $50,000 to cover the expenses of expanding roads, schools, water, sewers and eveything else to accomodate their azzes.
That or just accept the fact that no matter how much money we thow at infrastructure, the area is experiencing unsustainable growth that we will never be able to keep up with. Just let things deteriorate to the point that people would rather live somewhere else.
