Hey, I drive to a park & ride and take the bus from there. You can too. There's a bus that goes from Issaquah Highlands PR all the way to the U, it's the 556. There may be others at other PR's.

Being at the U gives you more options than the typical person who's not in Downtown Seattle (like me :kiss: ).

If they put a toll on 520 and none on 90, you can count on that 5 min becoming 30. Just bend over and take it... :kissmyass:

I drive from North Kirkland (132nd) down to the South Kirkland P&R so that I can jump on the 540 in order to get 2 blocks from UW. Of course my building is half way across campus, so it

As for doing anything productive while on the bus that's a pipe dream. My bus is standing room only in the mornings, kind of hard to work on my notebook, while people are crammed in like sardines, not to mention the bumps and vibrations from the bus make it impossible to type.

For me it doesn't matter if the bus is empty, I can't read anything in a moving vehicle without getting motion sickness. :puke:

I must be lucky then... I manage to get quite a bit of homework done on the 197 between Kent and the U District. But, it rarely fills to the point of standing room only in the morning, and it never does in the afternoon.

So i've been hearing that ya'll don't want your taxes going towards mass transit because basically its too inconvenient for you to use... Not enough stops, not high enough frequency of stops, its crowded, etc...

Do you see now that more buses can help?

And even if you don't plan on taking the bus to work, maybe other people will, making the roads less crowded.

Why the hell should I pay even more to make their lives cheaper? I burn ~$9 in fuel a day, they pay what a couple dollars?

Because it is all one state. Just like federal taxes collected in Mississippi end up in the same pool of money that go to fund the USFS work in Washington (as an example).

Funny, my GF just scored an accounting job in Seattle and now rides the train from Auburn and a bus to get to work. It takes her about 1.25 hours to get to work and costs $137 a year to do so......

Wow, $137 a year is pretty darn good. My company chips in $25/mo for my bus pass which leaves me spending $47. That comes to $564. Also the $564 is pre-tax, so I'm saving another 30% or something.

Both are a far cry from the thousands Shane is spending a year. :corn:

Obviously it could be a lot shorter if she drove, but it'll rape ya in the wallet.

The Seattle Times is good to their commuting employees. We figured she would save 30 minutes if she drove. We also figured she would spend about $240 a month in gas trying to save 30 minutes a day. The math was easy.

Typical government solution, the system doesn't work so throw more money at it. And if everyone did stop driving and there for stopped paying all those taxes that subsidize busses then who would pay for this wonderful transit system? Do you really think more people would pay for transit if they actually had to pay full price at the door?
