• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Buggy building questions.

I think the first thing you need to do is determine how much you plan to spend on the build from start to finish. Then determine how much searching for parts vs buying new you will do. Then build the best rig you can within your budget and resources.

Build the rig around the suspension. (preferably a link setup) Make it as light as you can, and as strong as you can. Most importantly read up on Pirate as much as you can and learn from other peoples experience, mistakes, and success'.

If you were smart you would look at someone who has a successful well built rig and copy it.

Here's some examples, why do you want a D300? Becasue it's cheap? well once you buy one, and you upgrade to a twin stick, then upgrade the inputs and outputs, and change the gears, and polish it all up, you'll realize for the same price you could have bought an atlas and and saved the labor of building the case.

How about that SBC, you going to run a carb? pane? FI? How much you plan to dump into that engine? You can get GEN III gm engines for under a grand and they will be more reliable, more powerful, and about the same price as a SBC.

Leaf springs? are you sure? Why even waste your time on a buggy if you're going to use leafs?

If you want to go cheap, build a buggy with toy drivetrain, v8's and tons get expensive quick!

Atleast thats my $.02 but what do i know?

Youve never had anything but leafs and youve never wheeled a linked rig before so you opinion is not valid sucka:looser:

I am on a low budget so coilovers arnt happening. I like leaf springs because their reliable easy and with the right ones they will flex all i need to flex. I am going to use leafs so that settles that now i need to know exactly what springs to use.

Here is an old:D school pic of my brothers rig way back @ the fear me challenge. If I remember right it was stock wrangler leafs.

My rig was the baby blue one, it was more of a jeep framed thing, this rig eventually was blue but a darker blue. Its still around and has done some impressive sh$t.:awesomework:

I have a leaf sprung buggy that i built from half a cj5. Im just down in Orting and ur welcome to swing bye n check out how it turned out.

I asked about frames and peaple helped me with that question i asked about where to get a good notcher and i had one reply on that As far as the suspension goes i never asked which one i should run i already knew what i was gona run.

If your going to ask for advice from other board members then stop being so narrow minded and take the advice they are giving you and use it to make a well built rig. They are not going to put their $.02 for no reason, most who are giving you info prob have had much experience and ran into similar problems.

There are many cool people on here, make friends and learn from them!:awesomework:

Im on here all the time and have no problem takeing advice from most of them. I havnt turned any advice down except for linking it. I like leaf springs for where i wheel thats all.
