Good start to my 4.3 swap

More progress

Made a little more progress. Installed the correct pan and got all the assy drive **** bolted up. Big box from Summit showed up today:cheer: Installed my plugs,cap,wires,& new coil. Built my new motor mounts. Bolted up the tranny to the cases to take some measurements.

Harness and Prom should be here tomorrow and hoping to set the engine in this weekend:awesomework:

I scored a free fuel pump at the Y yesterday. SweeeeeeeeeeT!
 
It's a good damn thing I have that other motor in the shop since there is a **** ton of parts missing off the CPI motor. Nate must have a coffee can of hardware in his garage somewhere. Nice that the CPI and TBI blocks are the same.

I'm not really bitching, it's just fun gathering up all the hardware needed. If we didn't have a huge bolt bin and a spare motor I'd be on my 900th trip to the hardware store.

You did a nice job on the assembly Nate. The wrecking yard did you no favors with the harness though.

i got it from a guy at work. he took it out of his sons truck that he wrecked. he had no idea someone would want the harness. so whatever i got i passed it onto you, plus a full rebuild and a few extra parts that i bought.
 
***Update as of 7-10-10***

It was hot as fawk in the shop so I pulled the doors off the truck to stay a little cooler while starting on the wiring.


Got my new rad from Extremeradiators.com mounted. I was a little pissed it was the same size as a 22re rad and smaller then the 3.0 rad I pulled out. But at least the inlet/outlets are in the correct spots. Installed factory hoses from a 95' blazer. Fit like a glove. I wish I would have set the engine back a little more. I only have 3.5" for a fan. I ordered a 17" fan from Summit last night that should fit.


The vacuum and heater hoses are all hooked up as well as the throttle and TV cables. The TV cable wouldn't work on the new style throttle so I made a little link for it. The adjustment seems ok and it moves freely so I don't see why it won't work. I used the 3.0 throttle cable and modified the 3.0 bracket to bolt to the 4.3 intake since the mount was missing.


I got the starter, alt, coil, fuel pump relay, intake tuning relay, ECM and such wired in. Now just need to tie the Toy gauge cluster into the Cheby wiring.

Installed the Blazer fuel pump in the Toyota factory mount inside the tank with very little modification. That was very nice! The GM fuel fittings on the back of the intake are giving me a bit of a headache though. I'm not sure I have that figured out yet.

Powersteering was cake! used stock gm line, cut the end off, installed old toyota fitting and reflared. Piece of cake and looks factory.

The tranny came with a deep sump pan but the front driveline is a little close for comfort so Thanks to Jeffroadams for the factory pan to help solve that issue.

Exhaust is gonna be tight. The PS tube manifold pointed right at the frame rail so I cut the flange off and rotated it, hopefully this will do the trick. The DS is tits, I may have to whack the pipe with a hammer for clearance but no biggie.

Got my ArtCarr shifter (the only thing I really splurged on). I think I'm going to be weird and mount the Auto shifter behind the t-case shifters. It's in a very comfy spot and you don't have to lean forward to reach it.

Last I got my new doors mounted before it left the shop for the weekend. Pretty good score to get a perfect match. The poof can doors looked like shite!

Today was wiring. Mocked up the interface wiring then cut everything to fit nicely. Made some adapters so the toyota oil pres and temp senders would work. All gauges seem to work and finally got the ecu to control the fuel pump thru the factory wiring. GM ECU mounted in the factory location with a little mod. Radio never worked so I figured while I had the bitch of a dash apart I'd thow in a CD/tape player. My winch and rock light switches were in the console before but I moved them to the dash since the A/T shifter is where the switches were. Just need to get some labels for the switches and it should look pretty good. Who needs painless wiring............
Got the interior all back together and other than the radio hole it all looks factory.

The damn engine won't fire. Has fuel and spark. Only Code 12. Won't even cough though. Didn't spend alot of time on it though since I didn't have a fitting to check the fuel pressure. I'm sure it's something dumb I missed.

Did you pull the top off the intake and check the return regulator? Inherent problem.
What are you using for intake and air filter?
Fuel pressure is very important with these motors.
Its all a lot of work but it will be worth it.

Not yet, I haven't tested the fuel press so I don't know that is the issue. For all I know I may have the dizzy in ass backwards. I'll start testing suff this weekend.
