I had a J*p Jeep in the 70's :redneck: It was all about the Armstrong Norsemans back then

So what was the common setup for an old skool jeeper back in the 70's?

Here is what my dad affectionately called Black Cancer ...due to the body rusting in half :haha:

Desert Dogs (30" tall), odd fire Buick V6, open diffs, gas cans, whip antenna, tow bar & a sweet blue top :awesomework:

He still tells stories about going between trees that were so close together...one gas cap would loosen & the other would tighten. The other tales usually include a mention of how the Desert Dog tire was the best there was.

I still remember the day that Wayne Duvick put a Scout rearend into his flatty with a limited slip diff...pretty advanced for the day. The front was still stock so it would ride down in the ruts & the rear would ride up on the ledges. I also remember him saying that every spring they would be the first to run the Naches Trail...all the logs were cut just wide enough for a Jeep Flatty to fit. All the Landcruisers were too wide & had to recut the logs. Also remember when the guys in the club were bitching about someone coming on a run with them & having the nerve to drive a Jeepster Commando and how that rig was way too big to be on the trail :haha:

I liked the way my dad had his old 57 set up. 327 out of a vette, auto trans, AMC 20 in the rear(welded), 35" BFG Muds, one piece front end, fender well headers. It would wheelie if you taped the gas twice from a stop. He built it with parts he got from the old 4x4 shop in Edgewood and from TC's back in the day( after he hit ice and flipped it of the over pass and onto I-5 in Fife on new years). Funny thing is my brother in law wheels a 76 CJ5 that is still set up a lot like how the rigs were back then, and he still wheels with the rest of them with no issues.
