Went to walker this last sunday and found they had plowed the rock pit out and down the top of the trail, made it to where they had plowed the hill down the trail and had to back down. No signs or anything saying the trail was closed, this is the one coming off the main road that gets you up into that first rock pit. Anybody know anything about why they did that and didnt put any signage up? I had two rigs behind me and we all had to back down cause nobody knew and thats always been the way i get to the rest of the trails out there

Not sure which trail you are referring to but they are logging up there, they have put many logging roads in and, a few trails have been closed due to all of that. Did it look like logging prep?

Yep, seen that sunday too. Good, I hate that fawking trail.:flipoff::haha:

It has been planned for for a few months now, there is a map kicking around somewhere showing that they were planning on expanding the pit so that they could pull rock from it to build the new roads in the area.

Sure sounds odd there were no signs there Sam. For an un experienced driver that could be a bad place to get messed up in.

But why no sign?

So now the only access is the shoefly?

Yes but sunday the gate was open actually

Yer tellin me, and the two people i was showing around were un experianced so that was fun to get them back down

Because DNR lands just did it, and I am guessing the recreation guys dont know about it yet.

Typical, well somebody needs to cause you cant see it till you round the corner at the top i was a little hacked off when i saw that i couldnt get through anymore. Espcially cause i cant see jack in reverse:haha:

I'll give Elyse a call tomorrow....but I imagine it'll be brought up at the meeting this coming Tuesday...:redneck:

Is this the first pit just off the main road that all the gem hunters go look for rocks in?

I thought I was told one time that some rock and gem club had some sort of rights in that pit and from time to time they blast out rock so they can expose more gems?

But we all know pissed off users tear down signs all the time...

Yes scott, known as the rockhound pit--only I don't think they are allowed to use explosives for their hounding ventures...calling Elyse now...

yah it was in the plans to remove this rock. recreation knew about it, i posted the photos showing what was going to be excavated.

It sounds like some work will need to be done to open this trail back up. And yes there are NO SIGNS as of last sunday indicating it was closed.

Left message with jim, I remember something about Elyse being on vacation sometime this month...will update at some point after I get a call back...:awesomework:

Let us know Kev:awesomework:

Talked to jim, and apparently he was not aware that the trail was blocked off by the excavation work (should not have been according to the prescription in the pit); Recreation knew about work happening in the pit, but did NOT know when/what dates they were going to be in the pit doing work.... He is going to assess it this weekend if he gets a chance, and try to coordinate with the outfit that did the work in the pit to get the trail reopened...If anybody heads there tomorrow, could you please take a couple pics and email to me in case he doesn't get to it (has alot on his plate tomorrow with multiple work parties in the park); and I can forward them to him....or if you happen to see him, get his email directly and send 'em to him...Thanks, Kev

Also, just how bad is the blockage??? And can the material be used in other areas for hardening/making obstacles in other nearby sections of trail???

Got the pic...Damn, it's clear down to the first sharp corner about 2/3 the way up that section...
