There is a guy riding around town with a "Built Not Bought" sticker, and I have a couple guys that work for me that build their drag cars and pulling tractors and give me a hard time cause I didn't build my Jeep. I bought my Jeep about 90% complete and have had a couple buddies help me as we try and finish it. I'm not a builder, I drive. If there is a project that doesn't take a bunch of fab work I will round up my friends to help and will hang in all night while they work and I fetch tools and hold stuff, but I really just don't do good "fabbing" stuff. I have seen a ton of cool rigs at the Hawk Pride and on here and it makes me wonder who is building and who is buying. In my opinion I would be a punk if ran around claiming I built my rig and I work my butt of to save up to pay for what I do to it so I have no shame in saying my rig is "bought". I was just wondering other folks thoughts on this. (Slow day at the office)

I have to buy whatever rig that I am driving at the time because I am too tooo tooo too stupid to build one.

Re:

I've built and bought. All cheap rig though.

You can definitely get some good deals buying a rig that is already built.

I say if you're good people, who cares how you got into this hobby. You are welcome around me anytime. I have personally built both my rigs, but that's cuz I'm a tight ace.

If you suck at driving and need a spotter everywhere you go and you need a passenger that works on your rig no matter your trouble......that's a different story.

Re:

Man I bought my buggy for less than the parts woulda cost me! I am no fabricator, I spent a lot of time and monies making it mine but I tell anybody that asks that I bought it. I built my sammi from stock and have probly 10g in it from the start to where it is now and if I sold it I might get 3g out of it. No shame here I just couldn't build a chassis that I would want to be seen in or trust to roll over in. My buddy has been helping me on my buggy as of lately and his welding and fab skills amaze me every time I watch him! If you can do it and have the time PROPS!!!! If not work a job and make it rain on the dude that can!! Wait I didn't mean make it rain on dudes..........

I built mine, not totally from scratch but it was a piece of ****.. It did have a good motor and axles which have been upgraded.. The only reason I did not buy one built is because of the money... I can do a little bit at a time, but I can never seem to save up 10 or 15,000. Okay I can never seem to save anywhere near 10-15k. Ha. No shame in buying a built rig in my book!!!! Although I really do enjoy working on my rig, that's a huge plus also with building one. I cant imagine me buying a built rig not changing something though. Unless of course you get up into the buggies that I would give my left nut for. I think you should get a sticker that says " bought not built, sure was a lot less work, nah nah nah nah boo boo stick ur head in doo doo". Hahah. And just like RC trucks, buying one built is the only way to go in my opinion if ya can. Because I don't believe you can build for nowhere near what you could pay for one finished. I know personally I would have been a lot better off Built rig. Financially speaking. Like I said I can't leave anything alone so Im sure I would change alot on it. But all of the bullshit little knickknack stuff drains my wallet. Piss on them! The only reason I wouls say "built not bought" is because I am kind of proud of what I have done with this thing. I mean I'm sure most of you know, but I'm missing a few brain cells. Ha. As a matter of fact , sometimes when we are doing something sketchy, I look at Joe aka "goose" my co-pilot, when he's pretty much scared to death, and holler "Remember don't worry I'll built this". It's Then hey really really looks scared. Haha.

Who cares as long as your riding. I have done both and will say its way cheaper to buy.

I'm still new at rocks, we have always climbed hills and played in the mud so Im still learning and a spotter helps on big stuff.

I've built from scratch, bought, traded, etc. Every time you end up with a new or new to you rig your gonna make it your own. Who gives a fawk who built it. Just don't be that guy claiming to have done all the work if you aren't.

This rig that Clyde @ SOR is building for me now is the first ground up buggy build I've ever done.

I've built and had built a BUNCH of jeeps in the past and I've also bought and traded already built jeeps, rigs, and buggies.

I'm going to go on record and say that building this buggy from the ground up is easily almost twice as expensive as buying an already built rig... but I'm able to get this built the way I want it.

Will I build another after this, probably not... way cheaper to buy already built and customize to fit you after the fact.

Just my $.02

I'm fairly new to the hobby. (Had quads for ten plus years) I've been into jeeps for about 3 or 4 years. I have bought all three of my rigs from forums like this. I didn't know what it took to build a good rig until after wheeling and reading the forums. To me it is MUCH cheaper to buy a rig already built as opposed to building. With that being said I've been collecting more and more tools as the years have gone by. I'm 28 and it took a lot of time to get the tools i needed. between my professional life and finally getting into a permanent house I see myself building something in the next few years. I wheel an xj and have half ton axles that don't hold up anymore. I will start with a 1 ton swap to see if i'm any good at doing this sh*t. If not i'll sell it and buy another from one of you fine fabircators. 8)

Mines bought not built...but I did pay to have it built. Does that make a difference? Lol
Let's ride!! :driving: thumb.gif

Edit: It's definitely cheaper to buy! :****:

Re:

Mine isn't much but I have turned every bolt on it. Bought it already "built". And had to strip it to a bare frame and start over. It was wayyyy hacked up. In the end I have quite a bit more money tied up in building it than what I could have bought something already built, and a little more built for. I'm just a tight as and could not justify the upfront cost of buying, thought I could do it cheaper. Boy was I wrong lol. Like somebody else said, if you aren't running around claiming that you built it all then who cares, your out wheeling and that's what matters

Just from personal experience it seems those who didn't play a part in the build of some sort also can't fix their rig when its broke. Everyone should know how to replace their weak links.

If your gonna own one built or bought atleast be able to fix it yourself . to those of u who can... :drinkers: cheers.

That's the truth, building your **** makes fixing it much easier. It's also funny how the built not bought clown is usually driving a stock Cherokee with a couple of home made bumpers on it. Like Jeep didn't build their ****.
