Thoughts on 3 link

Re:

Uppers do not need to be super angled, combined link angles allow uppers to be out just a bit. Depending on where they mount at frame, looks like they will squeeze by the engine/headers/alt

Maybe it will fit here

How about radius arm style? Two short uppers back to the lowers. I just don't like the idea of a big tire V8 rig depending on 1 link to keep it from twisting out from under a heavy rig. More so the brackets on axle and frame taking all the twisting force of tons and big tires. Just another option to make packing alittle easier and maybe a little more piece of mind.

I second most everyone's comments so far. Make the panhard mounts beefy as ****. Mounting the top link directly over the dif is good because it stops the torque at its source instead of transmitting it through the housing first. Most 3 links I see like this have the top link going straight back to the chassis, not angled to the side / frame like you have. Part of me thinks that having it angled like you do could induce some odd body jacking since all the torque from the axle will now be transmitted at an angular vector instead of a straight line. I could be wrong though. I'm also fairly certain that having it angled like that will cause some bind or at least weird travel characteristics. That is because as the axle flexes that angled top link will be wanting to pull it one direction while the panhard will be wanting to pull it either in another direction or in the same direction at a different rate. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable on 3-links as 4-links though. I do know that it is possible to get your roll axis much higher up with a panhard bar than a 4-link though.

I know it might be apples to oranges but most Tacoma solid axle swaps run a three link. Might check out some Taco projects to get some ideas on what works. I know on pirate there are a couple really good threads on them.

My top link was to the top of the chunk, and the frame side bracket was boxed onto the inside of the framerail, not under it. But still had some angle in it. It ran 100+ multiple times like that on 37's and beadlocks. Could steer with your knee.

I will say that I've had 3 links with panhards twice in my life. The first was in the rear of that gray single seater that I had. It was before I knew as much about suspension as I do now and that suspension did not work well at all. It jacked side to side badly. I don't have enough info on it still to analyze it to know why. The second time was in the front of my last black buggy and it worked pretty well. I did rip the panhard off the frame once as a result of it not being beefy enough. In both cases the upper link was slightly angled, like 5* or less, nothing close to what you have.

These pictures are from a long time ago but IMO for a crawler i loved my 3 link and had no problems with it. Just my $.02
