How does that even happen? I mean did they leave the keys in it? Newer trucks in a random town it's not exactly easy to get a key or jiggle the locks and ignition!

Professional I would say. I helped out a locksmith some in college and common vehicles he could be in the door in ten to thirty seconds. If you know the ignition switch, less than two minutes and it's running and driving. My buddy wasn't a thief, but the sister company hired in a guy that boosted cars for a living and he would amaze you at how fast he could get in a car, even with improper tools.

Programmed keys slow the driving away process by atleast 10min on a ford atleast?

Re:

Anyone in that field will have programmed blanks for that. If you think 2005 GM antitheft is uncrackable in ten years.....I kid really. People that boost this kinda stuff are prepared if that is in fact what happened. They are both in pieces, the truck is stripped and scrapped, the Jeep could be on a container ship somewhere.

It isn't gone in 60 seconds, but these guys do exist. Cullman had a bunch of Mustangs, new and old lifted in one night some years back. It was more than ten and never heard of one being found.

You can't spend your life worrying about it. Perfect example right here of the need to insure everything you own. Let insurance pay for it and move on. Unfortunately the truck insurance doesn't cover the trailer and if there wasn't insurance on the jeep, it's gone too.

It just blows for the owner.

To be honest, the people that live there call it Strawberry Plains, everybody else in town calls it "Eww, east Knoxville. Better chain it to a pole if you want to keep it".

So the only way to prevent getting your junk stolen is a hidden battery disconnect with a lock over it?

There is no way to keep anything from getting stolen. If someone wants anything bad enough, they will find a way to take it from you. Physical items that is.

I really hate it for the guy and hope it shows up out of fuel, with no damage. I just think it's too nice a combo and has found a new, permanent home.

You would think that the on star system could help with this on location or shutting the engine down I hate to here this. Moab off-road owner had this same kind of deal happen to him in not to far from this in Tn

East Knoxville is where your **** goes missing whether you want it to or not. It's a known fact that east town mall (about 5 miles from this incident) is where you take a vehicle you no longer want. It's the :JRich: mall.
