I finally sold my Tacoma to get back into a big boy truck. Found a great deal on a 14 2500 Ram with a cummins. Low miles, decent options, great price. Supposed to pick it up Friday. Start poking around a little and find out that the sky is falling.

Evidently the track bar mounting bracket has faulty welds and is ripping the track bar off the frame. Happening on bone stock trucks with low miles. (17k highway miles on the best documented one, which is what this truck has as well.)

The issue is, they don't have a fix for it yet and there is no way to visually inspect and tell if it is affected. Its a great buy and the current owner was not aware of the issue since the recall was just released and he isn't on the forums.

So, would you still buy the truck? I just don't want to lose a track bar at 70 with a jeep on the trailer behind me and i definitely don't want to buy a new truck for the dealer/nhtsa to tell me it isn't safe and I have to park it for 6 months while they find a fix.

SUMMARY:
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014 Ram 2500 trucks and 2013-2014 Ram 3500 trucks and cab chassis manufactured October 9, 2012, to July 29, 2014. The affected vehicles may have inadequate welds securing the front track bar frame brackets, which may result in the bracket components separating from the frame.

CONSEQUENCE:
If the bracket components separate from the frame, the vehicle may be more difficult to steer and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:
The remedy for this recall is still under development. The recall is expected to begin October 9, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R46.
Edit: October 25th new info that's outdated already.

On July 27, 2015, FCA US Chassis Frame Engineering reviewed possible inspection options with FCA US Materials Engineering and determined there was no reliable inspection method to detect if these particular welds had inadequate fusion.

Any ideas how I should handle the issue Chrysler has had my truck for a month and it is still not fixed.

They are sending me pictures I am very disappointed in the customer service that I have had from Chrysler. They just informed me they are taking about replacing the frame which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I will post the pictures when I get them. I'm hoping they stand by their work and give me a new truck I'm not sure I could trust that one again.
And this guy

Here are two better pics and a markup showing what looks to me like welds that are not fused.

Buy it, cut the old mount off and build a new one :dunno:

Someone else suggested the same thing. The issue I have with that is voiding the warranty (since they will obviously be wanting to fix this eventually when the truck is in for something else) or the fact that I would then assume the liability. Not really a fan of either one of those outcomes on a truck this new and this expensive. I think Ill probably just drive it until they come up with a fix and hope for the best. So far there seem to be 8 incidents out of 149,500 affected trucks in America. Those odds aren't terrible.

Cummins haters can eat one. Baby it for a little see if they come up With a solution. It's seems an easy ass fix in my opinion but apparently they retards. If they don't have a solution in a month or two. Just bring her up here and we'll fix ya up!

It will be here Friday. Ill put 500 miles on it this weekend. They will fix it or I will fix it. Problem solved, problem staying solved!

**** dodge. friend of mine got screwed by them after a major failure (fairly known radiator/fan shroud issue) and they said it was road debris :gtfo:

to the OP, good luck with yours and hope it goes well.. i sure wouldn't take the chance

Thanks for the input. I'd love to have a duramax, but I can't afford one that doesn't have 150k on it already. The 6.4 strokes have their own issues, a 6.7 is out of my price range too. Doesn't leave a real good option. I have strongly considered the ecoboost in a 150, but that doesn't seem like a great solution either.

I hear ya. I'm very happy with my duramax, but i understand where you're coming from. good luck with yours and hopefully it's a good truck for ya :dblthumb:

Luckily with a Newer truck he's got warranty and if they give him any bs he's got some Credible friends who can help dispute the bullshit warranty tries not to claim. If it ever tries to go to that :****:
