wondering if any of the different brand u bolts for the driveshaft to pinion yoke would be any stronger, or in there another style to hold in the u-joint. Thoughts?

I think Great lakes off road makes u-joint girdles. I know there are a bunch of companies that make Alum. girdle caps as well.

yes broke one yesterday and cost me a pinion yoke too. just trying to prevent if possible. thoughts on aluminum griddles? steel u bolts or aluminum griddles?

Is your yoke bottoming out and rubbing through the u-bolts? I've never seen one just break. I'm by no means saying it's not possible.

Keeping the nuts tight is crucial. I can say I have seen 1 break before. After inspection we noticed that the nuts had back off a bit and we could see a small section of rust in the break where it had been cracked for some time. I always use a little red loc-tite and I snug them up firmly. Never had any problems myself.

You only need to tighten the bolts to 30-35 lb-ft. Check the yoke for hair line cracks in the cap area. I broke 2 sets of your bolts in 1 day just to realize the yoke had a small crack in it.

This is the cause of most.
