OK....
so, I've been attacked in several directions telling me that w/ the rebuild of the rig it needs to be link'd....(and I have a hard time argueing.....except for the $$$ factor of course.....) and I have no idea how I'm going to "spring" it (no $$$ for coilovers)

but regardless....
what to do for link-ends is the question of the day.....
I hear good and bad's about the johnny joints all the time....but regardless, the VAST majority of them are all using a 9/16" through-bolt.....and....quite frankly, I am not inclined to trust a 9/16" bolt to take what will be thrown at this....
I'd call it a 5/8" minimum "comfort" factor....

but honestly....especially the lowers at the axle end.....I think its a for-gone conclusion that those will be the big bastid 1.25" heims.......
but those add up FAST ($$$), and I'd really rather not have to buy 8 of them...

I'm fairly inclined to run those at one end, and a regualr old 5/8" through spring bushing at the other on the lowers.....and then maybe 3/4" heims on the uppers...
are the bushings just a bad idea, as they're just going to wear out and allow that little bit of axle wrap/hop??

there will also be "maximum" vertical seperation at the axle end for the links.....bigblocks+doublers+bigmeats+fat trucks= the potential for alot of twist...

also.....from a design standpoint......I think I'd rather run the |/\| style, as I'm not terribly concern'd with a little axle steer, and I like the mounting flexibility and the slidy-over-stuff factor......
but, the single tri-angulation also puts ALOT more stress on the joints during a "side-hit", and I've seen it take out a good few ends that way.......the double triangle'd links just take the side hit alot better.......and again, the extra couple thousand pounds landing on it make me worry that much more about it....
should I be that concerned w/ that....or have I just been watching to many comp rigs getting fully stupid???

thoughts.......experiences.....

Ive been super happy with my johnny joints but i do have a 2800 lb buggy. If i were you I would run the 1.25 hiems minimum for the lowers, then I would run johnny joints for the uppers. also if you are worried about bending a link then you better step up to aluminum or cromo links, because dom will not hold up for you:redneck: I am super happy with my dual trianglated 4link, Ive got 9 inchs of seperation between the rear links at the axel and I think it really helps the rear end bite in the ground.:super:

I'll let you know

I'm about 2 weeks away from running my setup, I 3-linked the front & 4-linked the rear. Utilized JE's and poly bushings for the link ends. I've avoided any discussion, as this is my first real fab, and didn't want to get caught up with a lot of feedback that would lead to additional confusion.

We'll see how it goes, my club is planning a couple runs to WV & Reiter next month, I hope to have it ready by then.

I know tons of ZJ/TJ people running the lVl style 4link in the rear (crash did mine like that), and they seem pretty happy with it. They seem to hold up good, granted they're not comp buggys or anything though.

here's some pics of what mikes done...

Just use tractor joints. $160 gets 16 of them next day aired to your front door.

I've heard people saying they dislike tractor joints but I never caught the reason. What're their shortcomings, if any? Just out of curiosity...

1 link with a mother F'n grader ball. Bomb proof. Cheep. I know its cheezy looking having rectangle tube as links but as fat and as hard as you guys wheel, I think its the only thing that will hold up. Short of 2" 1/2" wall DOM, 1.25 joints, 5/16 mount plates that is:D

Fawk the "one link".....:redneck:

the links will be "heavy" DOM, and I may do some work to the lowers to make them a little stronger....the front links have held up pretty good, but the rear lowers are going to take a fair bit more abuse I'd guess....they may also get a little "shape" to them to make them a bunch stronger.....I'm lookin' at getting some dimple dies so they'll look cool too....

and.....I think its pre-determined that the lowers will have the 1.25" joints, and I was thinking 5/16 sounded a little light.....the front lower tabs at the axle are .375

OK.....

so you'd run johnny joints in the uppers before a 3/4" heim???.....

whats the concensus here???.....the 9/16 bolt still makes me nervous, but would prolly be fine in an upper link....???...

maybe your right Berne after watching you drive, you should go with something bigger than 9/16 :flipoff:

They tend to wear a bit faster than most but other than that no good reason.

bring this back from the dead...

OK,
well, I'm about ready to start cutting.....

the chassis is stripped and read to get cut in half....
I've got....what I believe to be a decent guess as to what the final 4-link layout is gonna be.....but....I've got another question....easy one this time...

I'm running |V| style....

how long are you links??
