Please save my tired little brain from having to think too hard.

I am yanking the coils and shocks from my TJ (rear only for now) and going to a pair of Rancho Coilovers. I am getting them cheap and going to try them.

I am figuring the mounting distance, Eye to Eye, to be at maximum compression on the axle measure up and add 1" to the max compression of the shock so it won't bottom the shock. I figure I can adjust it from there.

Any easier way?

How much travel gary?

Also for prime op you want them canted in 5 degrees and forward (torwards center) 15-20 degrees....

I figured on the forward tilt because of the axle travel forward on droop, and it make sense to cant them in for the same reason on articulation.

15" travel . According to specs, it looks like 22.5" center to center on max compression

12" 125 PI tender and a 14" 250 lb main spring

And I am figuring on boxing the frame a bit and building shock hoops on the inside. No room on the outside of the frame at all. Tire is within 1/4" on articulation.

If you inboard them on the frame make sure to get them as far out as possable(right next to the frame),. With them being inboarded that far you will run the risk of being unstable and very wishy washy on off camber stuff so pay close attention to that.

With it being a 15" shock I believe optimum shock height will be around 5-6" of exposed shock but thats more in therory. But go ahead and just mount them like you want to and hopefully you will have enough adjustment to get the correct ride hieght with the springs you have. Of course you can always runn a shorter spring to drop the ride hieght...

My springs are 4" inside the frame right now with the shocks at a 60 degree angle and I have 13 degree's of roll oversteer, it can't get much worse.. :)

But you also have to remember how much mouting surface the coils have-displacement of wiegth as aposed to coilovers. Also you can also run them a lil more verticle. Mine were origionally in the front 5 degrees in and 15 back. but I was unable to get 5 degrees in with the new front 60 because of the loss of tune length. SO I have them verticle and I haven't noticed a single problem. but that also might be counterbalanced due to the increased unsprung weight...

But just try to get them as far out as you can...

If your getting those coilover cheep thats cool, but I saw them at the vendor area in Moab. I am far from impressed. IMO they will NOT be the last coilover you buy.

maybe that is the reason I am getting them cheap. To prove they are ok, or see the faults.

Worse case, I have to upgrade down the road. I am not out too much.

Whats the mounting hole sizes gary?

I am not sure, I have not seen them yet. They are arriving at the shop today and I am working at the MIL's house and my ft garden today.

I think 7/16", but am not sure.

Hopefully they are 1/2" because thats what the sway aways are....

easier to just swapo them out if they don't work vs. having to redo the mounts....
