tire questions

i was planning on getting a set of 33x10.50x15 BFG MT/KMs for my truck, as i have heard nothing but good things about them, but i thought i better explore my options. i really dont know what is out there in terms of tires. so what do you guys run on your DD/weekend wheeler? i am taking into account mainly off-road traction, how well they air down, and treadwear is obviousely a big thing. i dont mind a little tire slap on the road, but i do like to be able to hear my music without having to turn it up to 20. any suggestions?

BFGs, Goodyear MTRs, ProComp mud terrains. All good choices for a DD.

Trxus M/T has proven VERY popular in this area. They are just as good as the BFG in mud, rocks, etc. /w stronger side walls and last just as long, plus they're cheaper. I've sold like 8 sets in the past couple of months and haven't had ONE complaint. For a DD/weekend wheeler I think they're hard to beat.

The only complaint I have about the Truxus I had was they didn't last long enough (but that was due to driving 3 months misaligned. My old BFGs which were used when I got them still have tread after more than 6 months on the same truck) with highway use.
I like the 33/9.50/15s on my Comanche (old school BFGs) and will probably go to 33/10/15 later (only because they are a lot cheaper than the 33/9.50s. What gives with that?)

Well, there you get into a problem because the TRXUS is a 33x12.50... they don't make a 10.5 wide tire.

i have 33x10.5 on my tj right now. they do wear very good. two of them have over 50,000 miles on them and they still alittle left. the other two have less miles because i have torn two side walls.
the rim guard on the bfg is a big joke. it actually catches more stuff and stuffs it between the rim and the tire,but i do have steel rims.
for a dd and light wheeler they do good, just have to watch the side walls. i have never lost a bead.but i general run mine around 15 psi offroad. i also have run both of mine on 7@8 inch rims. the 7 inch wide rims work better for me. if you get the bfg make sure to have the centers siped.as far as offroad traction they do good.

MT/R's are a bit quieter that the MT's

33's are about $180 each.
My last set lasted 40K+

i run iroks on my dd absolutly no complaints low road noise obviously great offroad descent on road great in the snow and not to bad in rain or ice I use it on my fullsize with no problems

Not in 15, but they do in 16". 255/85/16

I'm thinking about replaceing the 33s on my YJ with some 35s and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on tires?
I do 50/50 on and off road.

Well, lots has changed in tire technology in the 2.5 years since this thread was posted. :fawkdancesmiley:This gets asked about on an almost daily basis... try searching around a little.

Is the rig a DD, weekend wheeler? Trailered rig? Occassional street duty? Give us a better idea what it's used for.

I drive it around town and a little on the highway, but will flat tow or trailer it if I'm going farther than 50 miles or so.
I wheel most of the time on trails around Monroe, but also enjoy a trip or two to the dunes and a few snow runs during the winter.

I just found out that Dean makes a decent looking 33/9.50/15 now in the same pattern as the Kelly MSRs I used to run (got almost 100,000 miles from a set of USED ones!)

Hey! I didn't resurrect it!

My kids run 35x12.50x15 bfg km2's on their toyota and they seem like a good fit for on and offroad. Havent tried them in the snow yet. I just ordered one from Costco and I think it was $193.00.
