Does anyone have a reference for what dana 44 applications came with the large bearing spindle (which is what I think I have off from a '80 waggy axle?)

I am trying to track a pair down at a wrecking yard...Also where is the best place to get Timken bearings from...The NAPA down here only has SKF:rolleyes:

And FYI...front wheel bearings seizing at 65mph down the highway is not a fun ride

chevy trucks used a large bearing spindle. I have some waggy spindles on the shelf $50. per pair plus shipping

So waggy's are the small bearing spindle?

How much to ship a pair to 98607?

the spindles are the same(I just went and measured both types) your outer bearing size(hub) may differ but the spindles(inner) stay the same. Looks like about $10.00 to ship priority (2 day ) usps

I'll get back to you on Wed. when I get some extra cash (i.e. payday :D) but I would like to get those

Thanks

I seem to recall some tidbit of information that said the waggie and chev spindles differ in overall length, which effects how the axle sits inside in relation to the hub when installed. It's been so long, that I really can't remember any longer, just have this little nagging itch, so I posted up.

Sorry if I'm wrong, and happy if I'm correct, to share this.

I seem to remember there being a difference in the spindles when I took apart my waggy axle and the spare chev axle I picked up for the flat tops... I think the waggy had small bearing spindles (the OD of the spindle was larger), and the chevy had larger bearing spindles (OD was smaller)..... don't quote me on this, but I do remember they were different. I don't remember the length of the spindle being different, however. The axles were from an '81 wagoneer and a '73 chevy. You could check by having the parts guy cross reference a chevy and waggy bearing and see if they match up.

[EDIT]: pokey, do you know what years the spindles you have came off of? The rotors and outer hub body size were the same on both axles I tore down.

After some more research seems like the waggy used a small bearing spindle (bigger inner bearing surface) and chevy has used both styles. Don't know about the different lengths though???

Damn and I thought this was going to be simple :D

Here is a pic of the different spindles from Parts Mike's website. I coulda sworn that mine looked like the big bearing spindle but of course it is all buttoned up now

so which one is the one off your rig? The ones I have are the same as the one in the middle. I can dig around and see if I have the one to the right.

Believe the break is 1977 and older are small spindle.
Only advantage I know of is the small spindle will allow the use of 1/2 ton Ford rotors with the GM small bearings.
