IDM's do go out! It could be the harness if it is running off and on though, mine had been giving me problems for about 3 months and I replaced the CPS, ICP, cleaned the IPR, new oil, new fuel filter and once it died....it died for good. Do a buzz test, mine didn't buzz any of the injectors...

I called the Ford dealership and had them run the vin to see if the cam sensor recall had ever been taken care of and it hadn't...so they got me in right away and took care of that, then I drove down to the muffler shop and had them get rid of the muffler....she sings like the wind now!
