6.0 and 6.2 mpg

2 querstions:

I'm looking at a 4x4 Silverado CCSB with a 6.0 to replace Judy and my half ton truck. It will be a dd, so I need some real world figures on fuel mileage.

Found a Denali with a 6.2 for the wife. What kind of gas mileage do those get and are they stout enough to haul a Jeep and Rzr?

My 06 ccsb 6.0 4wd 3/4 ton gmc got about 10. 10 is a good round number. Got 13 on a easy trip to Auburn one time, but average driving = 10mpg. Hauling 18' all metal car hauler and my Toyota = around 8mpg.

2004 with 90k miles, 6.0 Denali AWD gets 11.8 mixed driving 90% city. 7-8 mpg towing the FJ Buggy on flat ground.....5mpg in the hills and on the rev limiter damn near.

Will it haul it, sure. Would it need an upgraded trans cooler, possibly? My rental tow-nali has been used 10-20 times hauling a full-size and the trans never got hot, but it did start to creep up in the bigger/longer hills.

I have a 2011 GMC with the 6.2L. Extended cab short bed 4wd. I have a 70mi commute to work and average 17.5mpg. My drive is a mix of curvy 2 lane and interstate. I also haul a 1ton TJ on an 18ft car trailer pretty frequently and average 11-12 mpg. The truck does have the 6spd trans which I do like in combination with the extra power the 6.2L offers. I have heard guys complain about it with the 5.3 but I have no complaints with the 6.2L.

Mine is a 02 CCSB 1500HD with the 6.0 and 3.73 gears and gets between 15 and 17 unloaded depending on how I drive. Loaded with jeep and 18' trailer around 8 to 12, depending.

Mine is a '12 extended cab short bed 4wd with 6.0 and it stays connected to a 24' tag along enclosed 90% of the time and pulls it fine. All synthetics, catback 3.5 exhaust, K&N cold air setup, 3.73s on stock sized tires and my odo says 9.8 average. I have drove it on long trips with the family on the highway not pulling anything and got over 15mpg by manual calculation. That being said I drive it like an idiot, always 70+ and accelerate hard, usually 80+ on the interstate. I love mine and would buy another one in a heartbeat.

2000 silverado ext cab 4wd short box 6.0. Im generally in town or back road driving empty get 11-12.5mpg. Towing 24' flat trailer, rhino, and jeep I get 7.5-9mpg in "D/3rd". If I can get to 70mph it will hold "OD" without lots of shifting but I have not been on long enough stretch to get mpg.

Sometimes I miss my '02 CCSB 1500HD LT with the 6.0 and 3.73 gears. It got pretty similar, depending on how you drive. I've since put just over 150k on my '10 CCSB 2500 4x4 with 6.0, 6 sp, and 4.10 gears, it gets about the same mpg. When first got it, it was worse than the '02 and made me second guess the change. Now the display is showing 16.1 avg and it hand calc averaged 10.4 pulling the living quarters trailer and 4 horses this past week. As some have said and like my 7.3 truck you can pull on interstate better at 70-80+. I run a taller but not wide (265) Michelin, ran 235 for a while and it helped mpg but was too narrow.

If you're worried about mileage get a versa note or Chrysler 200 with 9 speed.

Those were my next options but the towing capacity seems a little low.

My old 03 ccsb 1500hd 6.0 got 14mpg no matter how I drove it or what it had behind it. I miss the hell out of that truck.

Crazy the numbers the 1500hd's are supposedly getting. The only difference between them and my 2500hd is a little weight and 3:73 gears vs. mine with 4:10. 10-11 was average with normal driving, on 33x12.50x20.

99 chevy 6.0 with 4.10s driving on 295 nittos daily drive around town getting 13mpg towing the jeep getting 10mpg.

I used to own the same truck but Chevy and got around 15-16mpg ave, but that was very little highway. Tons of get up and go with the 6.2. I regret selling it.

1/2 tons are rated at 10k+ towing now, not that you would want to do that all the time. My old 2011 extended Cab 1500 with the 6.2 and max towing, had a rating of 10,300, IIRC.

The major concern is fuel tank size, they can pass everything but a gas station! :gay:

That's the truth! We were going to a meeting this time last year and I was driving my bosses truck 1500 with a 6.2 and one of other managers pulled up beside us in the same truck. We were running about 65 on the interstate so I shot him the bird and hammered down on it. That truck took off like a bullet. My first time driving one on the open road and I was amazed! My boss said "I ain't paying your damned ticket but don't let him beat you...." :driving:
