No problemo Charlie. We are going to head back up sunday or monday as long as i get mine duct taped back up in time :redneck: so get that shock ordered up.

Well, here is the latest carnage I found today. I was up playing in the hills behind my house and heard a big clunk... Think I cracked it in Naches last month when I jumped the truck...

Next up, 3-link! On to the designs!

So. In the last month I've been getting my hands on some of the parts needed for the 3 link.

Picked up a couple heims.

Question:

Should I re-do the engine mounts/raise the engine while I'm in here? I already planned on re-doing the front half of the frame to get the spring perches out of the way and give me a better approach angle. I am leaning towards cutting the frame behind the m/m so I have more room to fishplate and make it a bit stronger..

Watcha think?:corn:

Building motor mounts and cutting the frmae back some more is easier work to me than cleaning off all that shock hoop/shock mount garbage that is left to deal with.

I have NEVER raised a toyota engine. Just my .02

dont raise the motor move it back and lower it 1". you dont want weight to get higher. I am pushing mine back almost 15" and lowering it about 1"

Didn't think about the weight being higher. Was looking to make my flat belly easier.

Here is the new cut. About 5 inches behind the m/m.

What is everyone using to replace the frame with?

I think I figured out what my plan is now. I think!

Plan right now is to pie-cut the existing frame and bend the outter side to form around either 2x3 or 1.5x3 square. I think with enough weld area and proper plating/gusseting I should be able to make the frame just as strong, if not stronger than the old frame!

I'll do a rough sketch tonigh of how I plan on cutting it.

Cap those frame ends with some flatbar and then bend a hoop of tube for the framerail and weld it to the flatbar. Put a shrt chunk of tube under the main one that comes back to the motormounts and shock towers/spring mounts.

No reason to have a huge heavy frame to just hold the core support. Just one hoop of 1.5 inch will do fine.

Will that hold up to a winch mount as well tho?

I still have to get my winch mounted back up. Sounds like a good idea tho! Thanks Chop.

Just thought about this some more. Not sure it will work. I am completely flaberghasted on how I would mount up my steering box if I went TOOOB up front... Just can't think of a good/strong enough way to mount that big bitch if I did that. And hydro isn't an option as of yet...

I would use rectangle if you are not going hydro. 2x3x.120 should be fine (3/16" wall wouldnt add that much weight on that short of a run) as longer as you fish plate/gusset where needed and sleeve your holes for your steering box. It will be way easier to work with aswell. Tube can be done but its a more of a pain to mount you steering box to.

My thoughts exactly!

Tomorrow I am going to Interwest to pick up some 2x3 and get to welding! Most likely grab some flat bar while I'm there.

Well yesterday I got quite a bit accomplished on this pile! Got the frame/motor mounts figured out. Still need to fishplate and cap the fram but that can be done anytime.

This is the new frame height at the front of the rig. Still going to be adding a winch mount so It will stick out a bit further.

Also tore down my axle to get it cleaned up to start stripping all of the non-essential parts off!
