b&m shifter trouble with 700r4

Just swapped in a 4.3 and a 700r4 in my 4runner. It is running a b&m ratchet shifter. I finally got it to seem to go into every gear and park with no issues. My cable got up again the exhaust and melted. I ordered a new cable and I can't get it adjusted properly. The directions said use the forward most hole on the trans but i can't get it to fully catch park or if I adjust it to catch park I lose 1st. Any one have any tips?

The instructions say start in 1st and then park and fine tune from there but i can't get it right that way.

It probably has the wrong shift gate? I just went through this with my 4L60E, The side gate is replaceable and cost about $25. That fixed my problem. You can call B&M direct to get the correct part number.
