I have spent the morning talking with DNR seemed it was there day to get back to me. This is what I have been told.
For that the last year they have been asking for input as to what restrictions should be imposed on the busy, input as to where the users would like to see the trail go, the types of users that should use that trail and so on.
NO STANDARDS HAVE BEEN SET YET. They came up with the number that they did from user input, and they have only had a very small number of people showing up to those meetings.

Nancy is open for suggestions, she is willing to help those who want to help the park. Her words exactly were " people can't come to one meeting and make suggestions and then never back it with coming back to more meetings or helping out up there. If you guys come to the 1st important meeting. Then there are some of us that will go to the meetings and keep everyone informed. We will then need to back it up with some work parties with a good showing from all of you.

We need to all go to the next Focus meeting And it is Jan 10, 2008 at the fire station on 304th in Graham. Even you guys up north and when they try to impose something like this up there we will do the same for you.

From this has surfaced a lot of people that want to get involved, Its time for us to step up. If we don't then our trail will be lost. If you guys don't get involved then your leaving your fate in other peoples hands.

Ill step up and take Gibbys spot. I have alot to learn and with the assistance from the more knowledgeable people I hope that I can help with the problems. I obviously need to be voted in.

I plan on being at the meeting on Thurs the 10th . What time in the evening will it be?

I will be there and I will bring \my mitt.. MY oven mitt just in case it gets hott up in there..:awesomework: I will let people know..

I will be there as well, and just as a caution if the DNR feels like its a lynch mob kind of mentality we can probably kiss these meetings goodby:booo:

Sounds like you need to have a meeting, before the meeting to go over some "What to , and not to do" when dealing with the powers to be.

would anybody listen:eeek:

It concerns me as well Jim. I've seen behaviors on this board and on the trail that simple will kill our efforts if those same people show up at these meetings. It's not that the ideas and comments are not welcome, it's that attitudes that are not welcome.

Playing THE game, understanding key buzzwords that work for you and against you, which buttons to push and which buttons not to push, and understanding the big picture. One loudmouth saying the wrong thing the wrong way can destroy several years of work and negotiations.

There are things going on behind the scenes much higher up than me that I'm not aware of and Jim is right on target with his concerns. If you deal with the DNR in a respectful, courteous and honest manner, you will get the same back.

Nancy in particular fights back when she's put in a corner. She will stand her ground but at the same time, if you take the time to understand her needs then she'll take the time to understand your needs.

I took me two years to get her to approve making another difficult trail in order to take the stress off the busy. We started with the Sunrise trail but had too many complaints about the trail being to HARD so we had to work on her again to.

We also worked with her to meet her needs of hardening the bottoms of the mud holes but digging them out, using courdory style logs for the bottom and then putting the mud back in the hole. Typically these would have just been filled with rock and you end up with Tahuya style water holes.

She made a choice to take a little road that dead ended and tie it into the mainline extension because she thought it would make a nice connection to the trail and it back a VERY interesting little section.

She doesn't understand why we do what we do, or why spending all day on the busy winching, squeezing through tight trees and fixing broken parts is FUN! Rusty (he's 80) took her for a ride on the busy 2 years ago and she was scared! She wasn't so bad in JR's explorer with the leather seats and AC LOL:awesomework:

Remember, that Nancy is on our side to provide quality recreation for us and wants to know about what we want need. She's not out to close any trails or the park, but she does have guidelines that she has to abide by and find a happy medium.

Make em--anybody who wants to help the efforts will listen....

What I should kick their butts or what:haha: I tried getting my points across and get called a pushover and worse. I was a loud yeller before and I even climbed on a few tables to be heard but in the last 15 years or so I have learned that just about EVERYTHING gets decided in the backroom in quiet peaceful negotiations. Thats why the PNW has represenitivess for these things so that relationships built on trust and mutual respect can be built and thats how we get things done and why we have what we have (for the most part)

Just so you all know I have been talking to Randy The south Puget sound manager. He is Nancy's boss. He is the one that will ultimately make the decision. He is very open minded and has been very friendly on the phone. He has informed me that this restriction is only in the discussion phase and they are grateful to be FINALLY getting input from the community on this subject. I informed him that there might be 2 to 3 hundred people show up. I asked if we could get a bigger meeting place and he said he would talk to Nancy and get back to me. I didn't want anyone to be surprised by the number of people. a lot of good ideas have come up and a lot of people that want to get involved. Everyone please remember that this needs to be done in a friendly way. Everyone always says those 4 wheelers are great people, Lets keep it that way.
I also want to thank everyone for there support in this matter. It is nice to see all the 4 wheelers working together to help each other
