DB2 IP Question

how much endplay is the IP supposed to have?

This is on a 6.5 GM, I have the water pump/front cover off, the drive gear on the back of the IP off. The shaft has what I think to be excessive play, I haven't measured it yet but I estimate it to be 3/16-1/4 inch.

There is a huge backstory to this but I will save that for another day.

i dont recall ever seeing an end play spec, i dont belive it should have any...

there should be a spring loaded button that goes in the end of the pump (drive gear end to cover) that should hold the slack out of it. that much play is normal.

Yes button is present. Just wondering if excessive play can overcome the force the spring puts on the end of it.
