Decent car port?

I am looking for something small--like 10x8. Something for the the wifes car. It can't be permanent since where its going is be is getting redone this summer.

Looked on costco's site and they showed nothing...

The harbor freight 10x17 fully enclosed carport isn't too bad. I've had a couple of the Costco type tents of various qualities but they don't last, I bought one of the HF fully I loved units and it ended up at my father-in-laws over his Willys. 2 years later and I'm impressed. Not sure about snow load, but with its rounded design it might not be too bad.

It sweets, like they all do, but I like that it is completely enclosed. For under 200, it seems to be a decent deal. If you want a longer term unit, you need to look at a shelter-logic or similar with a 10+ year tarp warranty.

63055 is 8' tall

62859 and 62860 are 9' tall. Not sure what the difference is between these 2.

63055 is the one I was referencing. So far I've been impressed over the typically 'open side' canopy like the other HF units or similar cheapies. I wouldn't expect years of canopy life, but from the one at my FIL's place, its been holding up far better than what I've had before, and I like that it is fully enclosed.

I swore off any more "tent buildings" as for what I have paid over the years I could have had a metal carport or two, but its hard to beat the instant gratification that can come up with them for a small initial investment. I might be getting a couple to protect a couple projects I'm running out of storage for.

BTW, you can usually find a $179 coupon for the HF unit.

Tractor Supply also carries the "Shelter Logic" brand shelters. From what I know they are heavier duty with heavier tarps and posts. But I also think they have different 'grades' and the $400 one you find a Home Depot or Tractor Supply sigigantly cheaper and lower grade than some of the huge 30 x 60 or so tents I've seen that have a 15+ year life span.

However may be worth a look and compare to see what $400 gets you vs $200. But then your also 1/2 way to a 10 x 20 metal carport.... or a 1/3 of the way to a cargo container that would be bullet proof :redneck:

Really a shame costco doesn't have them anymore. It was by far the best of the 3 I've owned. The Costco one had hitch pins to hold all the parts together. The HF & Shucks ones I had were just twist lock and they would rattle apart in the wind. Plus the vinyl & tubing was smaller diam. & thickness than the Costco.

The instant gratification that come with a $200 instant tent are soon blown away when the wind does $900 damage to the wife's car.

I would put up the better ones made from box tube and sheet metal and spend the loot.

Of all folks on the board Mike, you know pay now or pay later (more than once) is very true.

What happened to all those hoops you had? Didn't you build one shelter with them already?

That 12'x21'x8' for for $824 is a deal thats hard to beat. Thats only 4 HF ones.

Plus that one will sell for at least 6-700 used when your done with it. :awesomework:

So instead of throwing way 200 on chineese junk, why not buy US made stuff for $824 and sell it when done for 700 and only be out $124 and happy the with a SAFE product while using it.

And you dont even have to drive to town or put it together. :cool:

Choppy has the wisdom as to frugality vs cheapness... Bro had the cheap ones and went through one about every 8 months...but you know it might work out for you! :haha:

And I fully agree but in my case I am keeping the budget low because its hopefully only for short term and makes no sense to spend a bunch for something that won't be used to its full extent :awesomework:.

Now if it was for my camper and long term by all means I would spend a decent amount for a cover..

Our club (I bought it) bought a Shelter Logic 10x20 unit online for $110bux shipped to my door 3 years ago...It was the 6mm thick tarp (thicker), and is (was) the SAME unit that HF sold at the time for $129 here locally (I found this out later)...In fact, there are ALOT of companies that sell the SAME unit, branded to their store....No sides, but it IS decent quality for the money.:hi:
It is the one behind the 10x10, behind the truck...I will see if I can find a better pic...
People complain about setting it up (takes about 15 minutes or so with 3 folks...) for events, but it's not a popup, so.... It would be perfect for what you are trying to do...:awesomework::awesomework:
You can fix the issue of coming apart in high wind with some simple drilling to accept the hitch pins, or 1/4" bolts/nylocks (we had this issue for the first time this fall at the E&E day at walker (NASTY WEATHER), but I think it was due to it being tied down in an odd fashion at one end...)...You can also fix the issue of blowing away by tying down each post to 5 gallon buckets filled with rock/sand, or placing the poles in buckets with concrete, or use the sono-tubes, dig holes with an auger bit, drop the tubes in, set the garage up, and pour the mix in, walk away...:awesomework:

Costco doesn't sell them year round. I picked one up this year in April. Quality is decent for the price, but yeah - they are not selling them at the moment.
