This is ridiculous. I read through the bill briefly and the claims made in the article aren't off base. It's downright lunacy in my opinion.

Here is a quote straight from the bill

27 (2) No person in this state shall possess or have under his or her
28 control at one time both of the following:
29 (a) A semiautomatic or pump-action rifle, semiautomatic pistol, or
30 shotgun capable of accepting a detachable magazine; and
31 (b) Any magazine capable of use with that firearm that contains
32 more than ten rounds of ammunition.
33 (3) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to any of the
34 following:
35 (a) The possession of an unloaded assault weapon for the purpose of
36 permanently relinquishing it to a law enforcement agency in this state.

And another (emphasis added)

18 (5) In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was
19 legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person
20 possessing the assault weapon shall do all of the following:
21 (a) Safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of
22 the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to
23 ensure compliance with this subsection;
24 (b) Possess the assault weapon only on property owned or
25 immediately controlled by the person, or while engaged in the legal use
26 of the assault weapon at a duly licensed firing range, or while
27 traveling to or from either of these locations for the purpose of
28 engaging in the legal use of the assault weapon, provided that the
29 assault weapon is stored unloaded and in a separate locked container
30 during transport.

Suggestions? I just read the bill, and (I was calming down a bit) just got pissed off again. This bill is ridiculous. Almost emailed Ed Murray, but didn't wanna come off as some "right-winged wacko."

I just e-mailed him. I am sure I came off as a right wing wacko. I actually had to delete about half of it, but I probably shoulnd't have.. We need to stop pulling punches, as a matter of fact I am seriously ready to start getting in the faces of these usurpers.

If you don't want to come off as a right winger just pretend that you are a gun loving liberal democrate that is saddened by this bill for whatever reason.

Fun thing about this. Apparently neither of the people who sponsored the bill had any idea the bit about searching your home was in the bill. The claim is that someone in the office wrote it in and nobody bothered to read the whole thing before bringing it to the table.

I don't know what is worse, the fact that they might be lying to save face or the fact that I actually believe they didn't bother to read it...

After speaking with a few colleagues in the Senate, it is my understanding the Chair of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, Senator Mike Padden, will not be giving this bill a hearing. The only way for it to get out of Senate Committee is to first go through a hearing.

Probably just a generation gap thing but in my generation when someone flips you off it means F-you or F-off. Not a great response when someone is simply trying to help you. If you want to avoid such confusion then learn to use smileys correctly :awesomework:

:haha: Sorry to confuse you, pokey, but I used the smiley quite correctly. :flipoff: and :fawkdancesmiley: and the like are friendly ribbing smilies... not angry fawk off smilies. We don't even have an angry flipoff smiley on this board. They look like this, though.
