Even in my group i'm not going to say anything.

Sorry Karl, when you said that, I thought you were refering to this run.

Then you said this

If you are boozing it up on one of my runs where I am hosting representing NWW and my Club, you will be asked to leave.

Interesting side note, in the olympic winter games biathalon they will do blood alcohol testing as athletes figured out one beer (or equivalent) actually steadied their hand when they shot, it relaxed them a bit. Rules now say blood alcohol has to be 0.00. I'm not advocating drinking and driving, but somehow that seemed relevant to this convo. I would have a few when I was younger while wheeling, now at the ripe old age of 32 I find myself waiting til I'm back at camp.

Alcohol is best left in a controlled enviornment.

Of course Alcoholics would not agree. :;

If you can't go without alcohol long enough to drive, then
I doubt you are the one thinking of the other persons safety around you. If you are drinking and driving, you obviously don't care about your own safety either.

When it comes to drinking, I'm all about following the rules of the road... to me, this includes the off-road situations as well. No open containers, no stumbling drivers. I know that some people are able to "handle" their alcohol better than others, but please keep the rules in mind (.08).

As far as drinking as a passenger goes, from what I have seen/experienced, wheeling is a sport that often requires the assistance of others. There are countless situations where you need to be able to depend on and trust those around you. In situations like those, I'd prefer to be in the company of fully functional and aware individuals.

And you actually want to marry me?? I'm never a fully funcitonal and aware individual... drinking or not :redneck:

:haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:

And now for the REAL question, how many of you were drinking while posting in this thread? :flipoff: :corn:

Oooo....Oooooo...Oooooo, ME, Mr. Carter, Me!! :redneck: :haha:

On a serious note while on the trail...IF I pop a top, I DO NOT get behind the wheel, period!!!! UNLESS it's just something as simple as *just moving* the rig. I know that when drinking, one's judgement can get severaly distorted and I truly value my passenger's lives, PERIOD! ...family or not!

No... having a buzz and precision driving don't mix at all... I tired to shuffle my rigs around in the parking lot with a stumble on once and that was enough for me..

Dear Nuzzy;
Living in a part of the world with VERY tolerant drinking laws, I can state that yeah, I've wheeled sober as a judge, dead drunk and all states in between. I remember being a party to one comp in particular, a cross country sprint. It was a timed event, with a twist. There were 5 check points and at every check point the driver and co-pilot had to chug down 2 liters of Pacena beer each before being allowed to continue to the next check point. After the 3rd check point things REALLY slowed down! The biggest problem everybody seemed to have was finding the 4th damned check point! I got completely turned around and so we just stopped on a bluff overlooking the river and eventually 2 more rigs showed up, also hopelessly lost. Night fell, so we built a fire and sat around all night, drinking and BSing until someones' wife came along and found us the next morning, drunker than a bunch of skunks, snoring around the fire. Talk about a fiasco! But I can state that it was perhaps one of the best wheeling trips that I've ever participated in too. The laws are different here though. It is assumed that if a person gets on a road, ANY road, then that person is responsible for whatever happens, and that includes getting killed by a drunk driver. If you don't want to get killed by a drunk driver than you should have kept your dumb azz off of the road in the first place! It's amazing how well this works too. Knowing that you can get splattered all over the road by any number of causes tends to make one much more cautious and respectful of others. Amazingly enough, there are very few fatalities here, the biggest reason being the very poor road conditions, thus very low driving speeds. Also, people here tend to self-monitor their drinking more because they realize that if they don't do it then nobody else will either.
Your friend;
LAMAR

I drink while I wheel, I have a breakfast beer before I even unload most of the time. I do limit myself to a 1/2 rack for a days outing and generaly share a few of those with the group i am wheeling with. All my emptys are retained with in the rig, littering flat pisses me off. You don't like the fact I drink? GOOD, less people for me to deal with. The legal limit is still .08 so that means it is legal to drink and drive until you exceed that limit. Do I exceed that limit on the trail? probably. Bottom line is everyone handeles their beer differently, there are those who should not have one, like gashypoo:flipoff: others who can have one or 2 ab=nd then and be done, or those who can casualy drink with minimal effect. just my .02 like it or not it is my opoinion, however i typicaly not wheel with some ****bag who is flat ass chowdered doing stupid **** and is out of control.

I'd like to hear everyone's feelings. Now let me preface by saying this topic is limited within the following parameters:

1) At no time is any driving done on a road. Only trail (low range).
2) No driving when sloppy/stumbly drunk. Just talkin about buzz after some beers.

I know many people on here will say absolutely categorically NO. I also know many people who enjoy cracking open a beer on the trail or going on an easy night run after dinner/campfire/beer and before bed. I've wheeled with both types and done both in my lifetime.

I'm hoping this thread doesn't turn into a poo throwing contest :; I'd just like to hear different peoples opinions on why they feel they way they do.

Why are you completely opposed or why do you feel it's ok?

Never a good idea. Wheeling is a technical sport and you need all your wits about you while doing it. Bad things can happen at any the time while wheeling (carnage / rolling) these things only get worse if you have been drinking period. When I was young and stupid we did such things and paid heavy prices at times and now that I am older and smarter I dont do such things and its not OK for anyone else either. Learn from my mistakes:eeek:

No drinking and drivng...period. If other people can be there then NO. If it is private property then have at it. It pisses me off when you come across smashed people on the trail.:mad:

You sir, are an ASS. It is not legal to drink while driving, PERIOD. Breakfast beer? Sounds like time to check yourself into AA. :looser: :rolleyes:

I thought you just had some sort of life changing experience.

I am guessing you had your breakfast beer(s) before you wrote this.:haha:

im a no...i turn into superman when i drink(thats a bad thing),and i dont drink enough on a regular basis to handle a few beers on the trail,although some people i wheel with can drink all day on the trail and not be stupid.

I will have to side with all the no's. how many times have you stopped to help out a lesser rig on a trial, just to find the driver is a been drinking and b did something really dumb. i had 1 encounter last yr. up in chinook pass. just cruzin with my fam. and up ahead is a 2 wheel drive ford half the ass is hangin out over a 300+ foot drop and he is blocking the trail. i got out to talk to him and he was **** plowed. empties all over the cab. people like that just ruin it for all of us.:puke:

That is Mr Asshole to you. I never drink WHILE driving, I always come to a complete stop so I do not spill:flipoff: So you call me a looser because I can enjoy a beer in the morning? You are a narrow minded person. I will not lower myself to the point of calling you juvenile/crass names. As far as the AA crack, well nobody likes a quiter:clappy: I did have a life changing experience that will shorten my time of well being by many years, so I am gonna live it on my terms:cool:

Drinking and driving don't mix, bad things happen. I don't see anything wrong with having a beer with dinner around the campfire and going on a evening run.

I don't advocate alcohol on the trail, temptation is something that people don't deal with very well.

I am an occasional drinker but never on the trail. If a person that chooses to drink on the trail, he/she has the obligation to do it in a manner that doesnt affect anyone elses life on the drive home/back to camp.

Anyone can, only alcoholics do "just because". If you were heading out to a football game or hosting an all day BBQ I'd understand, but having one just to have one is sad. My reference to your LCE was leading towards living your life to the fullest, instead of in a drunken stupor. You call me narrow minded, I call you selfish in your disregard for yourself and others. :rolleyes:

I guess I'm a guilty party. I think its all about knowing your personal limits and the limits of those around you. Yes, I drink a beer or two on the trail. NEVER do i get so drunk that I should not be behind the wheel. And never do i wheel with someone who I know will get sloppy drunk. Did that once, NEVER AGAIN! Specially after I had to bail his ass outta jail! If i'm going up with people I've never wheeled with before, i will not drink. i dont know them, i dont know they're limits, or they're views. Last thing I want is to be enjoying a drink and having Mr ****FACED running into me.

Main point of this post: Its all about limits. Knowing yours and those you wheel with.

I like drinking on the trail. For me wheelin&beer go togeather. Now I DO NOT GET DRUNK while wheelin but I will drink all day. I just happen to realy like beer. I dont like sodas at all, too sweet. Same with just about everything else except watter, and what fun is drinking watter all day? Everyone else in my usual group feels the same way about drinking and wheeling. We all pack out our trash, and usualy other people's that we find too:mad: I can only think of one time I got drunk and wheeled and it was at least 7 years ago on powerline and drunk+big mud holes+new tires dont mix. And I broke a tooth on a potato chip.:beer:

The key point is moderation. I think we can all agree that hammered wheeling is a bad idea. The whole point of the thread was the discussion between those stone sober and those who crack beers throughout the day.

There are a lot of people out there that can't understand the draw to drinking beer vs water or pop or whatever. To them, beer tastes bad or isn't a sipping drink, or they think it's only purpose is for getting drunk.

Others feel that beer can be enjoyed as long as it's consumed in a manner that allows the body to process it as it goes.

Some people just have more tollerance than others to alcohol. If we were around the campfire, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference when I have 4-6 beers in me over the course of a couple hours vs sober in both my decision making and actions. Beyond that, I can start to feel a buzz if I haven't ate all day...

Point is, alcohol affects us all in different ways. Again, I'm not saying right or wrong, but it is another factor thrown in...
