Anybody used one of those free standing a/c units(not kind that sit in the window) before?

Yes, and they work pretty good.

Cool a much larger area than a window unit, before we got central AC we used one I the main floor of our 2400 soft tri-level and it helped take the edge off. We had window units in the bedrooms to cool them down more, but the center floor unit sure helped make the rest of the house a little more barable in the summer. Worthwile investment IMO, sertainly better than nothing.

We have one and like it, but you still have to vent it outside so it's not so free standing.

True, but I figuredvthry already knew that.

My house is 1k sq ft. Won't take much :haha:

Probably not. Don't expect it to be artic inside, but it will sure help. Frequent Home Depot and lowes etc and look for sale units, but I don't expect a lot right now. There is a Box Store Outlet in the Frylands in Monroe that had some units a few weeks ago when we checked it out, no garranty there is anything with as warm as it has been.

On the one we have, we don't have a problem if you keep it off 'the 'dehumidify' setting. So it must combine any condensation out the exhaust vent (which is warm). Move it to dehumidify and it fills up its reservoir real quick

My dad has 2 of these, one is 7 years old and still works fine, he now uses it upstairs every once in a while.

The downstairs one gets used daily if its above 75 and hes retired so it gets a lot of hours when its actually running. He drains it daily though, ='s rolling it outside to let it drain. kinda a pain but worth it for the cool air.

Good price at Costco for a quality one when in stock. Believe I saw a few over there today when I was walking around. Issaquah store...

We run three in our house, one in the master, one in the kids room and one in the living room. Keeps it nice and cozy when 90+ outside. Sleeping is better!

BTW, your electric bill will reflect their usage.

Edit: We vent all three out windows.

Brrr, its a nice 68 degrees in my house:fawkdancesmiley:. Going to be a hot one over the next few days. :corn:
