I would use a male end on the heim....otherwise you may make a weak spot where you turn down the rod

Safety washer:
A safety washer is a large fender washer used in a single shear installation. If the rod end becomes worn or has a heavy side impact, the rod end could pop off the heim ball completely. The washer is installed opposite side of the mounting bracket and captures the rod end to prevent the joint from completely separating. In a double shear mounting the washer is not needed as the rod end is completely captured.
