On a synchronized manual transmission, do the synchros only synchronize adjacent gears? Or do they synchro any gear?

When I am in low range, sometimes I skip gears, like 3rd to 5th or 2nd to 4th because I don't need to do all the gears.

Anybody know?

Correct, it's synchronizing the gear that you are shifting into. The key is though that it's not synchronizing it with the last gear you were in, rather it's synchronizing the gear you're selecting with the rest of the rotating assembly in the transmission (input shaft specifically), which is rotating at or slightly under the engine speed that you were last at before you pushed the clutch in.

In any case, don't worry about skipping gears. I do it all the time in low range.
