Jeep Help / Advise

I would recommend swapping that to a 231j it isn't too difficult, is a much better t case, and will net you quite a few MPGs.

X2

and the 231j has ALOT of aftermarket support compard to the 249 and they are ALOT easier to track down for cheap.... cherokees and wranglers... more so cherokee's because there in every junkyard ive ever stepped in :redneck:

Im not swapping to a different case. I still need to narrow it down to the case, and if that is the problem I will just get another 249 and call it good... the reason is, I have no idea if I will keep this or not, but knowing me.. probably not so I wan't to put as little $$ and work in it as possible to get it on the road, then I will decide what to do with it from there.

It does run damn good!

in no way do i disagree with this either....

fix what needs to be fixed and be done with her.

Well if you intended to keep the 231 swap would cost no more than the 249, would score MPGs and it is more reliable. Besides Builtnot bought is right the aftermarket support on the 231 is far better. Really all that is needed to do the swap is the 30 min. that it will take to swap the input shaft. I just don't think that the time sacrificed is bad.
If you are looking to sell it how much? something like that would be great for my wife?

Im not sure what I want for it if I sell it... haven't really looked too much into what they are going for yet....

I found some 249's for $200 bucks in some local yards

the awd couplers wear out in the 249s so you'd want a lower mileage one.
x50 on the 231 swap. then you can throw a cheap locker in front.
com'on pooh, that bitch aint good for nothin on the road with that cheap lift kit, so throw some junkyard parts on it, lock it up and beat it!
i got some d35 disc brakes you can have for the back that way you wont lose a wheel when you brake a shaft:redneck:

So after more checking, I think the case is fine and it is the tranny...

I pulled the pan off today, and I don't know **** about auto's, but this seems like alot of metal to be in the pan????

No thats normal.

Yup a bit of clutch and steel glitter is standard issue. Pooh think of that glitter and darkness in the pan like the black nasty powder inside the bellhousing from the clutch of a manual trans. Same exact concept only the auto suspends that stuff in fluid and filters it out.

Adjust the bands and replace the filter. There is a decent chance that it'll take off again.
