Would you jump ship (work) if the grass appears to be greener on the other side??

Better hours, M-F WEEKENDS OFF :cheer:
Better Benefits (med, dental, vision, 401k) vs. just basic med.
Commute would be 5 miles vs. 55 miles 1 way..
Same Pay with possibility of more..

But... Not a nationwide company, just a small well established busy mom and pops place.

So would you jump??

Thats odd :eeek:... Can't hit a home run if you don't step up to the plate though. I thought you made stickers?

Its your life. Do you want to spend it driving back and forth to work all day?

I took a paycut when I jumped ship from a nationwide company to a mom and pop. But the mom and pop had better hours, way shorter commute, benefits were about the same, but my sanity went WAY up. They also cared a little more about how I was doing and would look out for ya, whereas the nationwide outfit I worked for wouldnt hesitate to throw someone under the bus.

How long have you been at the current establishment? 10 or less years I'd bail.

How is the small shop doing with the down turn? How much better is the med? If you were to do it I would try to leave the place you are at now on the best terms you can so that if the small place dont work out then youmay be able to go back to the bigger shop.

That's my side bussiness.

Less than 10, only a 1.5 years

Yeh I would be leaving on good terms and I would give them 2 weeks notice so I don't burn any bridges.

My next jump from ship will hopefully be out of the bizz. I am not known for changing jobs...

I've done this a few times, and has never hurt, just wish I had the long term at one co. I have ended up at where I'd thought I would be in the long run. I guess it boils down to if you're happy where you're at, or do you dred going to the current job?

I've been told change is good, not sure I always agree with that.

both jobs ive left on good terms and they would love ot have me back at anytime...kinda nice i have a fall back job or two to rely on.. i agree with notsopc and dont burn any bridges :awesomework:

X2, security is #1.

Other than that........bail:beer:

If a small company has made it this far in this **** economy, they will most likely survive, so it sounds like a good move to me.

Last job change I made, well the only one in the last almost 20 yrs...I tried to leave on good terms after 13 yrs on the job; offered a month's notice, and my employment there ended that friday (was a wednesday when it all went down);
I took a slight cut initially, but was back up in 6 months, much better atmosphere, boss, techs, my sanity isn't tested daily, when I leave work-it doesn't carry home.....yeah it was a bit scary at first (to the point my gut hurt the first couple days at the new job-but I got over it pretty quick, like within a week. No lookin' back!!!
Only you can make the decision for you; How long has the ma&pa shop been in business???

I have known way way too many people whom have had this same exact experience.

Most companies can kiss my ass :kissmyass:

They DEMAND respect, loyalty, devotion, background checks, credit checks, and HJ's but then afford you none of it in return. :puke:

:hi:

They've been in business for 15 or 16 years. I have a feeling when I give my 2 weeks I'll get canned right there. But they may hold on and make me do the 2 weeks. Traditional Midas was to offer you more money to stay. That's not what I'm going after. I want a job closer to home and better hours.

I know how that is. I am trying to get moved south a bit to be closer to home for a nice short drive kinda like the wife's 4 mile drive.:awesomework:

The one thing I have to say is that some mom and pops shops are exactly that, Family businesses. If you aren't family, you're basically there to clean up after the family. :;

Joop sometimes the grass isn't always as green as it looks. do your homework and check the bennies yourself and check the Business history.

If the Pay and bennies are the same plus you have a shorter commute and better hours then I say go for it :awesomework:

still bitter much?:corn:

Your right on the money though.:awesomework:

my 7 minute comute is awesome. and it takes 2 minutes to get to the end of my dirt road :redneck:. id say go for it. I'd hate to look back and think "if only". like others said dont burn any bridges and you'll be fine.

That is not jumping ship, it is taking a quality improvement step in your life.

Go for it in a heart beat. :awesomework:

Agreed. And...sometimes the grass is greener because it's over the septic tank...
