Lets talk TVs

So the 27 inch CRT tv that the wife and I got as a wedding gift in 2001 is pooping its big boy pants.

We are talking about revamping the entertainment center in the living room. We are looking at 40 inch tv's or less and a new piece of furniture to put the new TV on. No wall mount as it will be in the corner of our living room.

I'm a huge fan of Sony stuff, but they discontinued their ES line back in the late 90s / early 2000's.

What sayest the mighty NWW?

Whatever you find you like the best at Costco that is in your size and price range.

Then walk over to the furniture section and see if they have a stand you like. Table, stands or furniture should be easier. Just about any Fred Myers, Target, Walmart, IKEA ect will have a few to choose from in various qualities. And the 2nd hand stores, Value Village and Goodwill are filling up with TV stands or things that work as TV stands as well for pennies on the dollar. Just buy something of decent construction.

I don't think you can go wrong with just about any of the TV's now, just don't expect them to last 20 years, they just don't. But they are a lot cheaper than they started out at.

I had 2 Vizio's and both work great still, one 50 and one 32 both smart TV's.

Samsung 60" from Costco.

I didn't think anyone still watched old skool tube TVs any more. You're in a special category Karl.

I dont like the screen on the LED and LCD tvs. Its a plastic screen like my computer.

I rock a Plazma tv. It has a glass screen and a awesome refresh rate.

Unless spending big money I found that the led/lcd tvs look blurry when things are moving. Even the cheaper plazmas had very high quality picture when there was motion present.

Plus I have dogs that fling slobber and the plazma just wipes clean with a wet rag.

Mine is older Insignia thats about 9 years old. Works perfect.

I bought a newer Visio led for the bedroom and I hate it. Its not a clear picture, its bright and reminds me of a computer monitor and it takes like 5 seconds for it to change channels. Its a lengthy ordeal to channel surf.

I have odd taste tho and most people think Im nuts. :redneck:

Old school TV, Flip phone, tower computer. I guess the technology has passed me by.

Picked up a Vizio model E43 today. Haven't unboxed it, waiting on furniture and speakers. My old school Sony ES receiver will power it all with some mcintosh amps I got back in the day.

Looking at speakers now. All my old stuff is Legacy audio and Aiwa set up in a 5.1 configuration without the .1 (wife doesn't like subwoofers in the house). I'm looking at some Klipsh audio stuff. The towers take up too much space. I'm either going to go in wall or wall mount for the mains.

You know, I think I recall a conversation on here some yrs ago! :redneck:
And I too had an insignia Plasma and loved it, but it finally started giving me fits with reliability after 8yrs or so.
I researched today's technology, and went for a smart LED from Sony in the 46 or 48" screen variation (don't remember!). 120hz true refresh rate, with a virtual refresh of 240hz, or something like that, I gotta say I cannot tell a difference between it and the ol Plaz... :awesomework:
The color settings are totally adjustable to one's taste...:cool:
Oh, and you can get a smooth screen LED...:D

I have a Samsung 65" Smart tv. Honestly I don't use any of the smart features. I love the tv but their tech support is horrible. Our first one crapped out after 3 months of purchase. Granted we bought the floor model but it came with a full warranty. Well after two weeks of no TV and fighting with tech support on the phone. I took it back to Best Buy and they gave me a new one in the box. It's a good tv but now I want a bigger one.
In the Bedroom I have a Sony 55" Rokou. That's a pretty good tv too. Then I have a 42" Vizio in the Garage, it works great too.
