Matt O's Ultra4 Buggy - EOR Racing #4462

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

Well put, I agree today was a big success and I feel like I took alot away from it personally. Being in the rig and driving it really gave me a feel for it , and yea... Im a puss and drank to much last night.

P getting in to ride shotty again " If you dont make me puke your a ***** "

Matt " OK "

P 4 minutes later " Im not gonna make it let me out " laughing1

Good times, and great learning/ training day thumb.gif

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

I forgot that we got a lot of helment time today! Wore them pretty much all day and it was good to get some seat time with them on. I think I will feel more "safe" with windown nets in. Just another level of seclurity and I have huge window openings! Great times today and I am so glad we are testing hard in November!

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

glad to hear you guys are puttin in good work and seriously getting ready for this.

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

We were at Grayrock too, so there isnt any real "straight" were you can really let it rip wide open, hell I never put it in 3rd and it was getting it in those conditions in hi range.

Defanietly a different thing running full hydro at speed, have to be very careful with corrections and the fact your bouncing and getting jolted around at the same time you really have to pay attention to what input your feeding that stuurin wheel . :afro: I think for the first real testing for this we got the feedback we wanted from the rig, a good real world "feel" for things like dirt, dust, whatever in traffic ( John G ran with us and kicked up dirt and paced and basically just messed with us to simulate the dust and driving by snow blindness) So we are a little more aware of some things we MUST have to perform at our highest level. No WAY Id race this race with a dirty bike helmet, full face is the only way to go I was getting blasted with dirt when we would get on John's ass at speed... and even with sunglasses I couldnt hold my eyes open enough to be worth a damn... simple little things like that made today a big success . Oh yea, and the fact that I WILL have to take dramamine for this race. Im just not a good passenger when it comes to bumpy bump, I get sea sick, car sick, air sick so it is really no surprise to me that hitting whoop's at speed I get buggy sick too. laughing1

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

Did yall have the front end sucked down while you were at speed? The little bit of fast running I have done in mine, it made a huge difference.

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

I did not suck the winch down so it was compressing the suspension, but there was no slack. I did not want to limit any of my suspension travel for the bumpy sections. It is all a trade off I guess. Watching P run I noticed some body lean in the curves, nothing bad but it happens. Lowering it down some would help that, but then we lose shock travel and belly. Some rear weight is going to help a ton also. My axles are narrow and they are both the same width, so it makes it feel a little weird at 60+ mph. A wider stance would help out some, but that is also a trade off for the rock crawling sections. I am just going to work on small stuff and get the safety items sorted out ;D

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

I love the high speed stuff. I have more fun in my new buggy just cruisin around than on most obstacles. I probably have more highway miles on mine than off road. If I'm able, I'd like to do some test runs in my buggy against you.
I did some trail bombing in Harland, but I was riding with the toy buggy's most of the weekend. So no real competition keeping up there. Maybe at the ___ ride we can do alittle course to see what your up against.
Don't take this as challenge, but more of just messing around.
It's just hard to measure ability, success without a looser. :flipoff1:

Well, today was majestic. P and myself met up with John G at Gray Rock for some high speed testing. John set it up with Tony and we really appreciate it! The goal was to drive at some speed and check out how fast we can go. I really wanted to run the car HARD for several hours to check cooiling and all the other stuff.

That's awesome Matto, glad to se it all hangin out including P. Do you have a tranny temp guage? I know in High range mine will warm up to about 160. I turn on the fan and all betta. In low, it never get's over 120. Just one more thing to check. thumb.gif

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

I don't have a tranny temp gauge, mine has a fan it comes on when it gets warm. It has a knob where you can dial in when it comes on. Mine is set at the lowest possible setting without running all the time. Seems to be fine.

That sounds fun Brad, I have seen how you drive so you will probably kill me! :flipoff1:

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

matt, you mentioned not wanting to suck down on the front suspension w/ the winch, but what if you put some limit straps at the coilovers like i run to keep down on the amount of travel you get at speeds....

Readers Digest Version: I'm a ***** and can't hang. :flipoff1:

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

Matt if you want I have several places at my backdoor and so does dad (old strip pits) that you could do some high speed test at. The roads are somewhat smooth with ditches banks here and there.

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

I think with "real weight" of a spare in the back and the front sucked down just a touch to keep it taunt it would make a world of difference, but this was as is were is testing we are talking about . Basically this was run it hard for a long time to see how the cooling system hangs. thumb.gif

Damn Haley, I didnt even think about Pigsby... That lake bed would be a SA-WEET straight away high speed practice section. That would be a really good spot to test at. ...... thumb.gif

I am available most days for testin of this kind.

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

Cool Hailey, I will try to find some time to make that happen. I plan to experiment some with the winch and ride height as we make some more runs. Jimmy, I do have a center limit strap but nothing at the shocks. May be worth looking into.

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

Matt the place by wontworks has literally a lake bed, there are also some good long rocky roads out there as well. Be a premium place to test.

Were the pics from yesterday dood !

Re: Matt O's S&N Fab Buggy Updates & KOH Prep/Rebuild

MattO, looks great at speed. I noticed a bit of body roll in one of the pics. You might want to :afro: engineer some way of strapping a spare on top and then look at your body roll. That's another 100 plus #'s and see what happens. Signed, you internet web pit crew. thumb.gif
