So week after next im headed up to washington to check out a potential job. While Im up there I would like to check out some areas to live. I dont have a clue about the area so I thought I would leave it to you guys to tell whats good and what isnt. Im not rich but I dont like being stabbed either so what are some good options for me if I am working in the woodinville area?

thanks
Ben

Duvall. Woodinville. Monroe. Sultan (homeless capitol of Western washington).

Or you could just live in crash's driveway.

And I have new gravel to camp on :haha:

You have alot of choices.. Like karl said--also duval, redmond ect..

Yes it does. Renting would cost half as much as a morgage.

What most people rent for now a days, you could buy.

The bigger cities are going to cost more. Depends on how far you want to drive for work. With the way gas prices are, you could be better living closer to work, paying more for rent (if you are renting) or heck even mortgage if you buy. Then farther away, cheaper rent/mortgage, but more in gas.

I'll be renting at 1st but I would like to rent where I would buy a house, I moved and bought a house right away last time and it turns out I hated the place so I'm going to be a little more cautious this time around

Snohomish/Lakestevens/Machias and its not far from woodnville like fifteen mins that is if there isnt trafic. this area is good im tellin ya dude small town lots of friendly people then all u have to do is drive over the Trustle and bamm ur in the city!

I bet i pay more for my rent than you do for yer morgage. Buying right now isnt wise unless ya want to buy a 150k house for 340. BTW i pay 875 for a 2 bedroom apt in totem lake, Its pretty close to woodinville for referance.

In your case ben--definately rent till you get a feeling for where ya want to be....

Myself I would rather put $$ into something that will at least give me something back down the road...

So would I... but like bunk posted above.. houses are inflated by 100% what they are actually worth compared to the wages that are stagnant..

Hell.. most rent prices are averaging $200 a month over what they should be down here.. :booo:

Bill Gates has announced he is officially leaving Microsoft this year to pursue his foundation work full time. The rest of the board members and share holders have made it no secret that they intend to move the majority of the R and D operation overseas. Mr. Gates has been THE man for keeping that portion of his empire here in Washington. These are the jobs that pay into the six figures and there are plenty of them. Have you ever looked at the price of housing here and thought " Who the hell can afford these prices? " Well, they could. Computer technology is the driving force behind our state's economy and the only reason we are not feeling the housing collapse here as much as the rest of the nation.

When Bill leaves thousands of high paying jobs are going to leave with him. From Microsoft to all the industries tied to them. It's not the Boeing guys paying $525,000 for a wooden box I'll tell you that. I predict that by the end of this year and into next year we will see house values here in our state take a serious hit when this goes down. When you can no longer make 200K a year in the software development department, you can no longer afford an overpriced house.

I will be moving next month and plan on renting ( as well as moving closer to Reiter.:D ) I have the capitol and score to buy but I am certainly not going to be. Housing values in Washington officially lost 6.2% of their value from last year. The farther away from silicon valley you get the worse it is.

So you buy a house and have it lose 6.2% a year plus you pay 5.5% interest on say a $300,000 loan the whole time. This is not a money making strategy.

Take your down payment and put it in a money market account where it grows at 5.5% for the next year and then see where you are at.

In 1999 my Dad's house appraised for $170,000. In 2005 it appraised at $480,000! If you made money during the boom than good for you, I'm proud of you. Those days are over and will not be coming back for at least a decade or two.

Rent. And vote NO on housing rescue bills that will only prolong the collapse of artificially high real estate values. If you were financially responsible enough to not buy in 2006 you deserve to buy in 2011, at half price!

Thats ok--the bottom of the market can fall out and I am still looking pretty :awesomework:

That's where I am too. My payments are way below what I could rent a place for. I am in for the long haul, no biggie.

Horus, your wearing a large foil hat.

Microsoft has leased more square footage in Bellevue and Seattle and built more buildings in an extremely short time in Redmond than they have ever before. Microsoft is expanding and bringing thousands more jobs each year to the region.

Bill gates is stepping down to pursue giving his money away professionally, however he retains the position as chairmen of the board. Long story short, Bill aint leaving.

Even aside from M$, the housing market will continue to increase in value relative to most other areas in the country. Boeing is hot for the next 20 years and an estimated 4 million more people are set to arrive / be born in the next 20 years. Supply and demand? The latter for sure.

Once all the "renters" (that should never have been lent money) that were loaned money to buy a home foreclose, and an appropriate mortgagee buys that home from the bank, and the scared investors that took their vast assets away from lending institutions start investing in mortgage loans again, things will get back to normal. Wheew......

It will take awhile......two to three years is my guess. Other regions and low income markets may take longer to, or never, recover. But that ain't us man.......

Definitely try to get someplace where you will have a straight shot to your place of employment! Trafrick (not a misspelling) around here bites big time!
