Non-intended uses

So yesterday the roommate comes up to me and asks if I have a sifter. I respond with a blank look. I have no clue what a sifter is. She explained it's this can like thing with mesh for sifting flour. I of course do not know what sifting flour means or entails, but that sure sounded like the "carburetor cleaner basket" that was out in my tool box. :redneck:

After explaining that I found it in the kitchen after the ex-wifey moved out, and thought that was the perfect little basket for spraying down my quad carburetor parts, I re-purposed it.

So what other re-purposed items have you come up with? I'm always looking for ideas.:D

(Side note, roommate has since bought a sifter, and explicitly told me it's not for garage use!)

I have a couple of small measuring cups I bought in the kitchen utensil section of the dollar store for measuring 2-stroke oil out. They're marked in 1/4oz volume up to 2 ounces. Works great for getting the mixture "just right" for my saw, it's kind of finicky if I get the mixture too rich, and I don't want to run it lean.

I've used the grill to heat a ring gear for installation before.

Also at Hippy's place we use a big crab boiling pot for doing the same thing. Fill with water, boil ring gear for about 30 minutes, and install.


60% of the time, it works every time. :awesomework:

That's a terrible use for an oven. Ovens are supposed to be used to preheat cast iron parts for welding, specifically, differentials being welded into 'lincoln lockers'. :haha:

The dish washer gets a good work out from time to time. But the parts come out lemony fresh! :haha:

I find the gas grill better suited for these kind of projects, but when you need good temperature control, such as with paint, the oven is better suited :D

BBQ grill works well for doing heat shrink on welding cables too. :redneck:

Found many uses for the wife's elastic hair bands, they don't stretch quite as far as a rubber band, but the are a lot stronger.

The wife's body wash scrubber thing works great for scrubbing grease, grime, paint, etc off your hands. :redneck:

I used a propane weed burner to heat up an anvil so I could get it hot enough to lay down new edges.

Crash has seen me use my first wife's handicap van to transport an axle to Goldbar in order to have an ARB installed. A whole lot easier than lifting it into a truck or trailer.

My living room might as well be part of the garage.

Theres a first gen valance leaning on the living room window. Theres a Yblock ford tripower with carbs in front of the couch and a chrome glovebox lid on the kitchen table.

She finally made me take the cam and lifter kit to the garage!

When flushing brakes I use a turkey baster to suck the old fluid out of the master cylinder before I pour new fluid in. :redneck:

:haha:Her fingernail cleaning brushes are really handy for cleaning cloth seats when they get mud on them.
And fingernail files are great for cleaning points in old disty's and sanding RC crawler body paint off.

Also, when the paper towel roll is empty it does not behoove a guy to grab a christmas towel to wipe your greasy hands off.:haha:

I use baby bottle brushes to clean stuff. I also like to snack on old newspapers.
