guess i was wrong thanks for the heads up...

Oh yeah, also, that is a 86-95 ifs truck housing... Tacomas either had e lockers or the "8.4" housing that looks like this...

Re: Tacoma Rear Axle

Thank you for pointing out that the axle is a 86-95 toy rear...i referenced Randy's ring and pinions Differentials book,

and i quote "The unit can be I.D.'ed by application and by its larger 3rd member mounting bolt pattern, 12 bolts instead of 10 and larger studs (10MM vs 8MM on the other axles). " so i guess it is a 86-95.

i was going to use this rear in my buggy project when i started.

I have a 92 v6 third member that has ABS, and when i tried to put THESE shafts into THIS housing, they would not fully seat, they liked about a 1/4 on each side....that is why i thought it was a TACOMA rear and not a 86-95 toy rear.
if you can tell me why these shafts would not work in this scenario that would be great....

i have NO intent to misinform anyone with this post! and if i can use these as spares i may not sell them.

Yeah didn't figure you were trying to mislead anyone, there are a bunch of different Toyota axles and they look alot alike.

No idea why the shafts wouldn't work with that setup. I've put v6 diffs in all different housings with no problems.

How close together are the shaft ends when installed in the housing with no 3rd?

Re: Toyota Rear Axle

Ok...so i spent half the day trying to figure out what the heck i had going on with this axle, and why i could not get it to work in the beginning...

and i have no clue why it would not seat together originally.

Nick, i measured it with a mic between the shafts first thing, and it measured (1.520)
So, next i put a spare 4cyl third into the housing to see if that would let the shafts go in and be able to be bolted in....and they bolted together just fine.
At this point i was scratching my head, so i went and pulled the shaft out of my buggy to see if they fit......and it fit together. So i guess i must have done something wrong when i tried to use the axle when i started my buggy.

Thanks for the help Nick.
Here is the shaft installed in my buggy... 92 4runner v6 rear with an ARB, 07 4runner disc brake conversion. So i guess i will hang on to them... sorry guys for the confusion.

Wesley

Re: Toyota Rear Axle

I think the Italian mafia is in with Toyota building axels, further more it could actually be the dictatorship from North Korea, so many things look alike these days there's no telling how many chinks it took to figure this out. Love me some Italian mafia by the way!!
