so i just turned 21 im getting my ccp but it says it takes 30 days. I have done a bit of reading and from what i have read it seems that i can open carry without a ccp iin public loaded but if i am in my car it must be unloaded so would having the magazine loaded and the magazine out of the gun be considered unloaded ? Please let me know what your personal thoughts are on this im going to call tomorrow and try to get the sheriffs and the state patrols thouhg about this.

Pretty sure you would technically have to have the mag and pistol apart so you could legally "transition" into a vehicle. Because a loaded gun in a car=concealed from what I understand.

Open carry is legal but most likely will get you unwanted attention.

yup that about sums it up. Except open carry getting all kinds of attention, I've done it several times without issue. Really the only people that seem to get attention from it are those that go looking for it, unless you walk into the wrong place:eeek:

I open carry almost everyday.... I don't pay attention to the unwanted attention... Have even had people come up to me and thank me choir open carrying..I also don't unload when it is in my car and on my person... Just an extra step and few second it will take if things go bad so....

It's gonna look kind of weird when you get out of you're truck at the wal mart with a pistol in hand, reach into your toolbox to grab your mag and load your gun. I've never been hassled about open carry... I don't do it that often, I would rather the bad guy not know that he is out-gunned.

And the wait time depends on what county you are in. It took a month for me in Yakima county, it took like 8days in Pierce county for my girlfriend to get hers.

I got my permit in about 10 days.

I CC every day I don't come to the base. The only times I open carry is when I'm out in the woods with one of my larger guns and it isn't comfortable to CC it.

Just removing the mag when in your car may be pushing it. You may want to get a cable lock or lock box and use that when driving. Then you would only need remove the mag..... Don't push it. If you're busted it's a fellony and you then would never be able to own guns again if convicted.

Same here. I do have my concealed permit, but it's a pain in the ass for me to keep it concealed. When I get pulled over, I always hand the officer my permit with my license, and he usually asks me to get out of my truck and disarms me before we take care of business. I'm always cooperative, yes sir, no sir, and I always tell the officer that my pistol doesn't have a lever safety and that it has one in the pipe. Make sure the officer feels that his safety is your first concern, and you'll never have a problem.:awesomework:

I believe that without a permit, when transporting a weapon in a vehicle, not only can it not be loaded, but neither the weapon, the magazine, nor the ammunition can be within easy reach of the driver. Before I got my permit, whenever I went shooting, my pistol always had a cable lock, in its case, and I locked the case.

Ya I think I'm just going to leave my gun at home until I get my permit that way I do not have to worry because I would rather conceal it

I agree with Chop Shop. What Dain Bramage wrote is what many LEO's would like for us to believe but the law says differently.... Also going with that logic is often not safe. Taking your weaopon out of your reach may make it within the reach of your passengers. Law or no law is that OK with you?

I don't open carry often. I'm not against it at all but I don't feel that people need to know or see that I'm carrying. I've never been pulled over while carrying but I wouldn't hand over my permit or tell the officer I had Sidearm unless I was asked. If I remember correctly you don't have to disclose that you are carrying unless asked.

I never said that was the law, or that my word should be taken as the law. I only stated what I thought the law was based on what little reading I have done in an outdated gun rights booklet.

You're correct in Washington you don"t have to tell unless asked by a LEO. They will know you have a permit as soon as they run your name and will probably ask anyways.

When the officer runs you license plate, it shows you have a CWP and lists every gun that is in your name, so he already knows. :awesomework:

I used to love it when I got pulled over and gave the cop my CPL and 92FS9mm that I bought used privately.

He'd run the number and find that it was registered to someone else. They'd say "you need to register this in your name".

To which I responded, "No, legally I don't"
